I took my daughter and a couple of her friends to see Coraline this weekend. I had the mistaken impression that it was going to be 3D. Still, a beautiful picture with a cool storyline that scared my daughter to the point that she cried last night.

I rarely sit down and watch a movie. I'll mostly have something in that I've seen so I can still do stuff, and not be glued to the set. But Saturday I did sit down and watched 'I am Legend'. The best choice I saw on our free on demand list. My wife liked it, but it didn't do much for me.

Finally got tired of waiting and downloaded (Illegally, shhh!) Let the Right One In. I'm not sure I'd describe it as a "love affair" with a vampire. Eli certainly had more affection for Oskar than for her (His, I guess) first protector, but it's perfectly reasonable to see Eli using him because she needs a protector, and only reluctantly going along with the relationship that Oskar has in mind. Apparently in the book Eli was doing the same with the earlier guy, who was more clearly depicted as a pedophile.

Me too.
Have you seen it yet? I was pretty underwhelmed. I don't think I've ever seen such a bloated, sloppy screenplay in my life. And there's a really intrusive score that accompanies it. It's got some very good moments, but mostly I found it unimpressive.

I watched Battle Royal last night. There was some silly melodrama, but I loved the high concept plot. It'll be interesting if we get an westernized version.

Or Ossie Davis as JFK.

Michael, I have my fingers crossed that the West leaves Battle Royale alone.

i don't know how well the US would handle a concept like "battle royale".. with all
the school shootings and whatnot
