Back at a previous job:
1 case of 72 Cukes cost about $8.50 delivered to the warehouse. That came to about $.12 per cuke. We sold them 2 for $1.00.

no way that is net. must be gross? alcohol sales?wart57 wrote:try 40% margin....Hungary Jack wrote:$1 B in profit in the grocery industry probably translates to $20B in sales if one assumes net margins are around 5% (3% may be more accurate, which translates to $33B in sales). If your company made 1 billion in profit, I don't think there's any need to cut raises this year...

When I sold auto parts I discovered the markup to be similar for oil and air filters, etc.wart57 wrote:Back at a previous job:

I said division, but really should have said department or goup. We have over 1000 stores.Hungary Jack wrote:no way that is net. must be gross? alcohol sales?wart57 wrote:try 40% margin....Hungary Jack wrote:$1 B in profit in the grocery industry probably translates to $20B in sales if one assumes net margins are around 5% (3% may be more accurate, which translates to $33B in sales). I don't mind it...but then again comparing it to a West County grocery store...everything is a dump.cardinalkarp wrote:So have I, but that doesn't mean its not a dump.TimeForGuinness wrote:I've seen worsecardinalkarp wrote:Really, that place is a dump.BTW, fun fact. The Hampton Village Schnucks is nice and close enough that I would pick that place 10 out of 10 times.TimeForGuinness wrote:I don't mind it...but then again comparing it to a West County grocery store...everything is a dump.cardinalkarp wrote:So have I, but that doesn't mean its not a dump.TimeForGuinness wrote:I've seen worsecardinalkarp wrote:Really, that place is a dump.BTW, fun fact. Hampton Village Schnucks is ok, but it doesn't have much character. They've specialized most Schnucks to their respective area- for instance, there are more Italian options at the Schnucks on Arsenal. It seems that Hampton Village is specialized for boring people. (which probably makes me one because I do my shopping there, but you get the point)
And the beer selection at that Schnucks sucks donkey wang. Probably 60 to 75% of it is A-B products or Miller products. And then they throw you some Schlafly, the major other brands (Guinness, Newcastle, Sam Adams, Corona), and that's it.
