That's how it is for guaranteed checks I think, but personal checks are apparently a whole different story. For me it's ranged from 3 days to 9, which seems insane.
Are you talking about personal checks that are written out for bills? I think much of that has to do when the person/place you send it to actually cashes or deposits the check. Some take longer than others.
No I mean deposits. Like theo said, they have really long check-holding times. Doesn't effect me all that often, but it was incredibly annoying this last time - compounded by the fact that they wouldn't even discuss it.
I probably will go to Commerce at some point this week. I need to consolidate some of this stuff anyway.

Hmm, I haven't really noticed that. I rarely deposit personal checks though.
JCShutout wrote:I use commerce and its nice. The people on the phone are actually helpful, and deposits go into your account right away (same day if before 2pm, before 9am the next day if after 2pm). Payments, especially with my debit card, go through quickly too, which is really nice if you keep track of your finances and hate waiting for a bunch of payments to go through to make sure your account is balanced (like me).
Plus, a previous employer bounced two paychecks one month, and I was charged $400 in overdraft fees when it was all said and done. I got my company to pay me finally, and after talking with a Commerce manager for like 5 minutes, they waived all the fees, even though they were not at fault... and they waived them quickly, like, by the time I drove home and checked my account online (15 minutes tops), the fees were gone and the money was back in my account.

Btw, JC. You better like the freaking website next month!
They're updating their site? Do you work for them?
Their use of their website (and fast uploading of transactions) is great. I've gone to Schnucks on my way into work using my debit card, come in 5 minutes later and check the website (I update my spreadsheet every morning) and the transaction is already posted.
The public part of the site (not online banking) is being updated. And I work on the web team.
I've never had a problem with Citibank and my special lady friend uses BoA without issue as well. BoA has ATMs in Boston that scan your check and cash deposits instantly, then credit them to your account immediately. I will say, however, that Citi's website is awful compared to BoA's. I left BoA in college because they are overdraft charge happy, but if you don't live on a college budget, the convenience factor is astronomical.

Ive noticed that if you check your balance online your balance wont reflect the deposit for a few days, but never gotten an overdrawn fee from it not posting. Cant take it out at an ATM, but Omaha is the only one that carries cash anymore anyway. I love BofA for my personal stuff and my mortgage, but i have had to move all my commercial stuff to a different bank.

So Citigroup might not be so hot. I'm thinking shoebox under the bed. Highly liquid.
Bank dude: You are able to get a Card in instant by visiting to any of our Banking Center.
You: How does that work? I just walk in and ask for it?
Bank dude: Yes, and I also request you to carry a Identify proof such as Driver's license.
Bank dude: To locate a convenient banking center near you, please visit our Web site at.
You: I didn't know they could print credit cards at a local branch.
And of course they can't, come to find out. They could give me a temporary card, but only if I drive over to Illinois since that's the state my account was opened in. And it only takes five days to get a new card... it just starts now instead of ten days ago thanks to Bank dude. I can't think of a single reason why he didn't place the new card order for me regardless. Not one.
Now it obviously isn't a big priority for me, but come on.
I was at Meridian Credit Union and they were great... until they sold to A-B Employees Credit Union. And that was the worst banking experience I've ever had.
So I moved to Southwest Bank 2 years ago and they've been great to me. I definitely recommend SW Bank. If, of course, you're looking to switch banks.
