I wish I knew more about how to trade stocks.

They allowed short selling again today and with the world markets getting pummeled, you knew the US wasn't going to have a great day.

BTW, how does short selling work?

With stock prices at the current level, I wonder what the P/E ratios are for the trailing 12 months. Stock prices must be incredibly cheap right now based on earnings ratios. At some point, after the smoke clears, stock prices will rise dramatically. I wish I knew when...

This is a bit late in the thread, and may have already been posted, but I think it provides a good synopsis of the problem. The solution, alas, is less clear.

Where would we be without the bailout right now?

I've stayed out of this thread because I know jack squat about it, but I'd think right about now would be a good time to buy stocks, wouldn't it?

I wish I knew what to buy. Never done it before.

Same place we are now, probably.

The bailout plan really has not been implemented yet, to my knowledge. It will probably take several weeks to ramp it up. But I doubt it will have much effect on the stock market either way. Investors are in a panic right now.
