Re: Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin: The Thread
“So Sambo beat the [expletive]!”
This is how Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin described Barack Obama’s win over Hillary Clinton to political colleagues in a restaurant a few days after Obama locked up the Democratic Party presidential nomination.
Sambo is a racial term for a person with mixed indigenous and African heritage in the Caribbean, also for a Black, or South Asian person in the United States and the United Kingdom. It is considered a racial slur in the US and UK but not in the Caribbean.

I don't understand how a Vice Presidential candidate referring to a Presidential candidate as a "Sambo" is counterproductive. What's wrong with publicizing racist remarks by a public figure running for the 2nd highest office in the United States?lukethedrifter wrote:Spreading this stuff is extremely counterproductive.PujolJunkie wrote:“So Sambo beat the [expletive]!”

A waitress overheard her say this???? You are going to consider this a legitimate enough source to enter the comments into this ostensibly reasonable discourse of the candidates?PujolJunkie wrote:I don't understand how a Vice Presidential candidate referring to a Presidential candidate as a "Sambo" is counterproductive. The only thing that dismays me more than a continuation of our current Administration's policies is the mudslinging and fingerpointing that goes with the process of replacing them.

If it's true, then that is a huge deal. This isn't some irrelevant, throwaway comment.

it is counterproductive. hearsay. no way of knowing if its true. Focus should be on the issues and failures of the last 8 years of GOP rule. Shouldn't that be enough?

If you don't consider the way Chicken Little and The Boy Who Cried Wolf handled their business counterproductive then I guess not.
Spreading every bit of hearsay that comes along is plain foolish in and of itself. But when this stories are proven false, or at least not proven true, your side loses credibility.
OTOH, this is American politics so I'm probably wrong.

Re: Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin: The Thread
Look, this isn't me trying to smear Sarah Palin. I know that's going to be the way it's looked at. Hell, I'd look at it that way. This is me posting things that could be extremely relevant to the way Sarah Palin is. If they're wrong, they're wrong and I'm sorry that I posted it. But if they come out to be true, then everybody here saw it coming. How will we ever know if it's fact if it isn't publicized and fact checked? I'm not wishing it to be true. I'm spreading it around to see if it actually holds any water.lukethedrifter wrote:PujolJunkie wrote:I don't understand how a Vice Presidential candidate referring to a Presidential candidate as a "Sambo" is counterproductive.
