I just seen what Palin said about the community organizing.
That was sickening.
That was sickening.

Yes, and I have to admit, the choice of music has been pretty embarrasing as well.ghostrunner wrote:Oh lord. A sign just read "the Mavrick"
If only the "Get a brain you Moran!" sign had made it!

But I really don't think that's the reason his POW experience keeps getting played up. I don't think people hear that and think about his judgment as the commander-in-chief. It's an emotional reaction, one that appeals to people's patriotism and one that allows them to identify with and admire him. I'm not by any means saying that this is unique to McCain or to the Republicans. I just really dislike all of this flag-waving, 'I'm more American than you' way of how we go about electing presidents. Why do the wives of candidates speak? Why is it important to get to know the families of the presidents? Why is it important that the person have a family at all? I felt the same way during the DNC, all of this effort being made to prove to everyone that Obama is a normal American with a normal American family. Everything that happens in these conventions and really in the whole campaigns are more about marketing techniques than about issues.
I believe that for about 70% of voters all of this is meaningless. Someone like BW and JG are going to vote for the Republican because that's where there positions are on the vast majority of issues. I'm going to vote for the Democrat for the same reason. But everything that happens in these elections is about that 30% who either don't vote on issues or whose positions don't clearly line up with one of the two very narrow parties.
I'll say it again, I just don't think our version of democracy serves us (the people) very well. Two years and hundreds of millions of $$ and thousands of pundits spewing antagonistic and divisive rhetoric on television to elect someone for a 4 year position is absolutely ludicrous.
