Those protesters aren't helping Obama.

It also makes him qualified for every job in existence. Haberdasher to nuclear scientist.

I don't typically watch these sorts of things. I don't know much about McCain(so that noone makes the joke, yes I knew he was a POW).

Do they always give this much camera time to the protesters?

What country is trying to be president in? I'd love it if the crowd would chant it or something.

obucard wrote:The problem is the government has already tried. During the last oil crisis people started buying imports for reported better fuel efficiency and discovered they were much better cars. Detroit's response was to complain to Washington that nobody was buying American anymore. Even today sales trends point toward vehicles with fuel efficiency, yet they continue to make gas guzzling trucks and SUVs and wonder why they aren't selling.
Still catching up... obucard, that's not exactly accurate. They only shifted back to gas guzzlers because that's what the demand was for. That energy crisis in the late 70s led to the small car craze and then gas prices stabilized and actually went down over the next 30 years (adjusting for inflation). And the response from the public was, let's go back to our big gas guzzling cars since gas is so cheap. It's only in the last 2 years since gas prices have skyrocketed that suddenly you hear people talking about alternative energy, better fuel-efficiency, etc. Those of us who were not just concerned about the price and supply of oil, but also the cost to earth have been talking about these things for 20 years.

And with all due respect to trying to avoid partisan politics, but up until the last year, what Republicans were championing environmental causes and alternative fuel sources? The flag bearer of the party was even denying that the science behind global warming was real and didn't feel the need to do anything (while obviously having extensive ties to the oil industry). Environmentalists and any liberal leaning politician who chose to make any of these things an issue were mocked for being tree-huggers and spotted-owl lovers.

Isn't it a little disingenuous for McCain to talk about his respect for Obama tonight, after his colleagues mocked him mercilessly last night?

Talk is cheap, Mr. McAncient.

and if they could chant it after statements where it makes no sense to chant it.
