This is an excellent point, PP. Anyone remember the privatization of SS plan? Rolling Stone brought this up: Republicans were actually convincing people to finance their own impovershment.
Why we can't get someone with Ron Paul's views on the economy and Obama's views on the environment and abortion in one person is beyond me.

In fairness, how many primary elections were held after March 4th (when McCain sewed up the nomination)? If his was the only name on the ballot, he's almost certainly going to rack up a huge number of votes.

Yeah, but that's mostly because McCain was running against a bunch of goofs while Obama ran against a political machine.

Well, that's certainly one way to look at it.

Of course that's true. And of course you realize it's pretty meaningless. Hillary and John Edwards were highly popular Democratic candidates, and took some (many) Democratic votes. The Republican party didn't (in my opinion) have that many strong candidates to support.

Well, it would be like Albert Pujols & Jim Edmonds splitting MVP votes during their heyday, while Andruw Jones was clearly the best player on the Braves team. Andruw Jones will get more votes, because Edmonds and Pujols are splitting votes, not necessarily because he's more popular than Pujols and Edmonds.
