Only Christians are able to get their creation story introduced into public schools under the guise of "Creationism". I can't even call it a psuedo-science, because it's not. It's simply the Christian interpretation of creation, yet it gets a sentence or two (and even chapters) in most HS textbooks.

This is hilarious. When's the last time you've opened a HS textbook?

30 minutes ago actually. And you?

biology books that talk about evolution will almost always have an some sort of apologetic comment about "Some people believe there are other theories ... creationism" etc... Sometimes it's only one sentence, but the fact that it's in there at all shows the pull of the Christian right in our school boards.

So, when was the last time YOU opened up a HS book? Or any book?
This angers me

WOW...this thread is not about the election anymore. Maybe there should be a forum for "all things politics".

I'd like to discuss the race for the White House, but I don't see that happening.

Palin is on record(I think, really her answers are weird) as supporting the teaching of creationism in public school Biology classes. That's a clear no-no for me, and something I would consider when picking a candidate.

This is what I said on Page 119. I really don't want to look at this thread anymore. No one is going to change anyone else's mind about abortion. Let's move on to a different topic related to the election...or not.

I know 20 pages have passed, but since my comment was challenged... What baby did Barack Obama kill? If Obama is a baby killer then everyone on this board that supports choice on the abortion issue is being called a baby killer. I for one take tremendous offense at that. If I had been in the presence of that couple that made that statement to anyone, I don't care if it's their children, I would have had a real long discussion with them. I have very strong beliefs about life and I have never been and never will be a baby killer and I won't allow someone to call me that. I don't even eat meat because of my strong beliefs on this issue, and similarly I am 100% opposed to the death penalty.

The reality is that since Roe vs. Wade, abortions have been dropping in the US. We should be looking for ways to reduce that number further rather than having these pointless demonizing debates (on both sides) that don't accomplish anything except to drive a wedge between people of different spiritual beliefs.

And as far as morality is concerned I think it's tremendously important. I just think that private behaviour between consenting adults, whether I think it's moral or immoral, is pretty irrelevant compared to the killing of 100s of thousands of innocent people in a war that was completely unnecessary. I also think that it's far more immoral that we live in a country that gives CEO's, corporations, and mega-wealthy people tax breaks while we have poverty, slums, and lack of quality education and healthcare for disadvantaged classes here at home. That is what is immoral, not some stupid [expletive] that was made public for no reason other than political ones to bring down a presidency.

I hope you don't think I called you a baby killer. I don't think Barak is, and I think the choice of words was terrible.
Amen to your point about the Rich getting tax breaks, I know the CEO of my company makes a ridiculous amount of money, and they just axed about 1000 workers to save money.
If Obama gets elected, I hope he can do all he is promising to do, I see alot of positive ideas on his side, I just hope they are things he really wants to do, and not just things he is saying to get elected.
One last thing, Obama's mother was only 18 when she had him, yet some want to use Palin's daughter as reason to attck her.

Public schools are run at the local level, so you will see a great deal of variation between what is taught and not taught from state to state and even district to district. I don't know what public schools are like now because it's been 20 years, but I went to a large St. Louis suburban public school, and I was required to participate in many prayers led by Christian teachers (alongside my Jewish friends).
