People tend to shy away from candidates who appear to change their minds at the drop of a hat.

Wart, you don't think that was irresponsible? Kids that age are very impressionable and I'm sure they would take that statement literally. If you feel that strongly that anyone who holds a pro-choice stance is a murderer, I'm surprised you are still undecided.
Bumping this question for wart. I don't have a problem with parents teaching their kids their belief; I just think they should wait until they're old enough to understand and even then, do it in a manner that avoids such inflammatory language.

I think it was more placing gay marriage on the ballot in swing states, pandering to evangelicals, abortion, swift boat veterans for "truth" and Kerry not defending himself early.

Love him or hate him, Rove knows how to win elections using the dumbest crap.

The list of GWB's changes of mind,eg nationbuilding, along with the list of Ronald Reagan's changes of mind, e.g Reagan negociating with the Soviet Union which pissed off conservatives, rival that of John Kerry. Calling someone a waffler simply a political technique used to get elected. Just like swiftboating.

Geesh, I go away to catch some trout for the weekend and come back with 20 pages and nothing new.

How about that church telling people to pray for rain on Obama and then having Gustav throw a monkey wrench into the GOP convention. How weird is that?

I have personal experience with abortion. My college girlfriend got pregnant. She was from an evangelical family in Houston. Her parents did not approve of me because I was Catholic, from the midwest, from a broken family, and not wealthy (these were my assessments of their dislike). She decided to abort, under a great deal of pressure from her parents (or so I was told). I made my best case for having the child and making things work between us. That her parents would come around once they got to know me and my family. I even offered to take the child and raise it if that was what she wanted. But to no avail. In the end, I felt that I had no choice because it wasn't my body, it was hers. So, heartbroken, I sent her a check.

I'm sure her parents, if they are still around today, are strong right-to-lifers and would never vote for a pro-choice candidate. But they have the resources to take care of "problems" with or without laws to ensure that option is available to everyone in a safe manner. So I'm not sure what my point is in sharing my story, but as a Catholic I believe that life begins at conception and ends at natural death. I also believe that women have a right to choose. And that means all women, not just ones who can afford choice regardless of what the law says.

I think parents do a lot of things wrong, including what language they use. I am still undecided because I won't let one single issue make my mind up.
To another comment made, if it makes you fell better to think the fetus is not alive, go ahead and believe that. I think that unborn child is the most vulnerable life on the planet, and when an abortion occurs, the baby is killed. I know of nothing that can make that right in my mind.
My adopted sister was date raped when she was 17, she had the baby, my parents adopted the child. I now have a beautiful adopted sister or niece whichever you want, that would not have been here if she were deemed a "choice" and not a baby.

It's amazing, and a bit disgusting from a political standpoint, that this issue is debated every election. And the only reason is because it's a convenient issue that divides the country and is used to manipulate voters. It's certainly not an unimportant issue but can anyone honestly argue that this is one of the primary issues that needs to be addressed by the next President?

Make this thread go 200 pages = WS for STL in 2008!!!

Here's some tips:

1. JoeyBomb this thread like there's no tomorrow. Bringing up abortion will help, but what about gun ownership? 9-11 conspiracies? Iran Contra? Come on, think outside the box.

2. Post unflattering pics of the candidates, or flattering pics of their family members.

3. Someone start a string for "She's only 17" by Winger.

4. Don't just ignore Snayke's comments, actually try to respond to him.

5. Pander to the Left.
