Re: Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin: The Thread
ya, the experience issue is absurd...
Bush had about 4 years as a governor with absolutely no political experience before that...no one cared then...
it's not like these guys (or girls) make decisions all by themselves anyway...
and so is the change issue...no president can change the country...or at least that's the way it's supposed to be set up, checks and balances and all (well, if Rove, Cheany and all their friends have their way there won't be anymore checks and balances...hopefully McCain feels differently)...
having a black president could help in changing our culture a bit, showing the black youth today that there is room for them and they can achieve a high status in our society (because at this point there isn't a lot of Hope for the black youth of America, unless they hope to be in prison)...
but Obama the person cannot enact any major changes in the way our country is run...only big business with the cooperation of Congress can do that...and education, but nobody cares about education these days...most kids can't even do simple math for change when they're standing behind the register at a store unless they have a computer to do it for them...

Re: Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin: The Thread
In terms of the issues at the forefront, I'd say no. The biggest problems conservatives have with McCain are immigration (which he's backtracked on a little), campaign finance reform, and I suppose the environment. Bush was already a maverick on immigration with respect to the party, so they're both in the same boat there. McCain has typically been more of a deficit/pork hawk than most Republicans, but now he's saying he wants to make Bush's tax cuts permanent. He's been more open about global warming than Bush and most Republicans, I'd say. He'd probably still say he supports campaign finance reform. (I'm surprised he hasn't hit Obama from that angle more, since Obama went back on accepting federal funding. McCain could go right after the "change" issue there, though it's kind of obscure and I imagine most people don't care.)planet pujolsian wrote:Please educate me, is there a major policy issue where McCain differs from Bush? I haven't heard it from him. If not, he's done an about face from his maverick rep.

campaign finance sounds nice, but then elections become more about money than they were before, as the bulk of tv ads would be left up to 'swift-boat' type organizations that don't have to be held accountable for their 'facts'....
basically the election would be who has the most money behind them....

He also was hard to rope in on some of Bush's judge appointees, etc. He's been a bur in the republican saddle for a long time.ghostrunner wrote:In terms of the issues at the forefront, I'd say no. Many of us liked the fact that he was a "maverick" but wished he had fought the republican stronghold for a different set of ideals.

I think that hurricane Gustav has proven that Obama is the antichrist.

Breaking News: Palin's unmarried 17yo daughter is pregnant.
Doesn't mean anything to me... but not sure how the evangelical supporters will react.

I can't believe Third Man made it to Alaska so quickly.

If she can't stop one of her daughters from getting an unwanted pregnancy, how can she stop the rest of the country?Leroy wrote:It means that Sarah is unfit to be the vice president.clement wrote:Breaking News: Palin's unmarried 17yo daughter is pregnant.

I wonder what Dan Quayle makes of all this.
