I called this an hour ago.... the "Sportsman for McCain" bumperstickers are probably already on the press.
I'm not trying to pull you into a debate that you don't want, jim, but I'm pretty much convinced that some orgs, the Sierra Club specifically and others, have politicized their endorsements, articles, etc. so heavily that they've actually lost the respect of would-be conservative supporters, like myself. I'm an outdoors guy. I'm a clean energy guy. Most of my friends are as well, despite being conservatives. Just in looking through their list of endorsements the Sierra Club has endorsed 3 republican candidates out of the 200+ endorsements they've made, and their statements on their website read more like DNC talking points than thoughtful and non-partisan ideals.

imo, that's sad, and unfortunately, it's turned a lot of conservation-minded conservatives off toward environmental organizations. I think they would be better off by trying to build bridges across party lines, and reach out to people like me, rather than for all intents and purposes setting themselves up as a special interest branch of the DNC.
The Republican party has favored business (anti-regulation) that generally opposes anything that would cause businesses to clean up that adds regulation and cost. It's not surprising that it's tilted heavily toward Dem's imo.

But let's stay out of politics here ... try to pick up some issues of Trout magazine (or better yet drop $35 to become a member of Trout Unlimited and have it delivered to your mailbox) or pick up a copy of Fly Rod -n- Reel and look for the featured monthly column by a guy named Ted Williams (no, not that Ted Williams). He has a blog here Neither one of these rags formally endorses a president to my knowledge, but you would be hard pressed to find much good about the Republican party and their candidates.

Don't let those organizations scare you off, feel free to research others. I've given you a few, I'm sure if you go the Ducks Unlimited route you will find the same. (Please, just avoid Ray Scott and the B.A.S.S. organization - he never saw a creek he didn't want to dam up and throw some black bass in. )

The failure in the environmental policies of the Republican party is the primary reason I'm a Democrat. I would absolutely love it if the party would correct their ways.

Other than the fact that Dan Quayle remains the biggest joke in the history of American politics to date, you've got a point.

Well (think Ronald Reagan here), I am impressed with Gov. Palin. I listened to her speech, and I liked what I heard. Interesting how mostly men are sounding so against Sarah. Not surprising though. Sarah Palin spoke from her heart IMO and acknowledged Hillary Clinton’s valiant effort at making history. Ploy or not, it doesn’t matter. People need to pull their heads out of the hole and find out the real information about the candidates and the issues before voting. Sarah Palin is an upstanding woman with good ideas and a true desire to serve. She IS the working class regardless of the elected position she holds. The fact that she was able to effectively and successfully execute her duties as Governor of Alaska while maintaining a pregnancy of a down syndrome child is nothing if not remarkable.

Gov. Palin is revealing her ugly side during this, her toughest political battle to date. As she continues to dig a deeper hole for herself day by day in the so-called Troopergate scandal, the more desperate she appears. Sarah Palin is not handling the pressure well.

On Thursday Gov. Palin kept digging at Walt Monegan for lying for saying he felt pressured by her administration to fire her former brother-in-law, Mike Wooten.

If Monegan felt pressured to ax the trooper, he would have said so, she said. "I'm sure Monegan would have come to me and said, 'Call off the dogs, I'm feeling pressure,' " Palin said.

Translation: If Walt didn't like my husband and several members of my administration hounding him relentlessly about firing my ex-brother-in-law, he should have said something. What was he worried about? Was he afraid if he didn't fire Wooten, I would fire him? What a crazy idea that is.

The governor should really just stop talking when it comes to Troopergate.

We'll probably never know for sure how much of a factor Monegan's inaction on Palin's brother-in-law played in her decision to fire the commissioner...

State Senate President Lyda Green said she thought it was a joke when someone called her at 6 a.m. to tell her the news.

"She's not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president? said Green, a Republican from Palin's hometown of Wasilla. "Look at what she's done to this state. What would she do to the nation?"

Green, who has feuded with Palin, brought up the big oil tax increase Palin pushed through last year. She also pointed to the award of a $500 million state subsidy to a Canadian firm to pursue a natural gas pipeline that's far from guaranteed.

House Speaker John Harris, a Republican from Valdez, was also astonished at the news. He didn't want to get into the issue of her qualifications.

"She's old enough," Harris said. "She's a U.S. citizen."

The more they pound this drum, the more they will diminish Obama. Palin has a record of achievement that Obama does not possess. I believe it is the Obama crew that just does not get it! Hooray for a working class mom who has proven herself on the issues that are really important to the vast majority of Americans. I predict that Palin will smoke Biden in their debate.
You're serious?

Joe Biden has foreign policy experience. He's been around since Sarah Palin was 7. Sarah Palin has no freaking experience whatsoever. Let me repost what I posted earlier:

Obama: 8 years in Illinois state legislature, 3 1/2 years United States Senator, President Harvard Law Review, Consitutional Law Scholar, Professor Chicago Law, Author, Prescient grasp of foreign policy.

Sarah Palin: 2 years as Alaskan governor, Mayor of a town that has a population of less than 10k, Mother.

Obama, as raw as he may be, has light years more experience than Sarah Palin. It's silly to try and equate the two.

As governor, she is the Chief Executive of the largest state (by land mass and coast line) in the US. She is also the Commander in Chief of the Alaska Army National Guard, Air National Guard and State Guard. No small task considering the scope of the mission, vast area of operation, climate and geographic proximity to a hostile Russian Navy and Air Force that are constantly probing for military and infrastructure weaknesses. In her current position, the “3:00 a.m. phone call scenario” in the name of national security is nothing new and is not a theoretical. These are responsibilities that neither Byden nor Obama have had in their senatorial tenures of 32 years and 140+ days respectively.

You're right, it is silly

That's it. But I really don't care at all about experience. It's about what they stand for. And that's what it should come down to.

Not that it ever does.

well, lets be real, alaska has a population of 670,000....just because she is governor of the largest state by land mass/coast line, really doesn't mean anything. wichita's mayor has more people than that to deal with.

and i dont understand how she has more experience to answer that "3 am call" than biden does. shes only been a governor for 18 months.
