Fantasy trade advice

Post by Rieges »

I have an offer on the table to trade Adam Dunn for Cliff Lee. It's a Fantasy Point League and I'm currently 6th out of 12 teams (3rd best in hitting, 11th in pitching). The league does not account for K's so Dunn is pretty valuable due to his BBs and HRs. He currently has the 14th best point total among OFers in our league. Lee is the 4th best pitcher in terms of fantasy points. Lee doesn't have a history of tailing off in the second half from what I can tell (his last two healthy seasons, he's been slightly better in the 2nd half) but as we all know, projecting pitchers is always dicey. Dunn was better in the 2nd half last season but had a significantly worse post-break in '06. I'm leaning towards doing the deal given the state of my pitching but wanted some other opinions.

in points leagues all that matters is the final point total, so I don't get too worried about having offense or pitching being weak as long as the point total is good.

The question is who will Lee replace on your pitching staff and how many points more can you expect from Lee over the pitcher you're replacing as well as who you will replace Dunn with and how many points you may lose in that switch.

If the sum of the above is positive, do the deal. If negative, I'd stay with what you have.
