Re: Per Bernie : Jocketty is OUT!!!
I see a lot of the recent problems as related to ownership/budget. I'm fearful that the owners will just install some yes man. I think we need someone with experience and vision to rebuild this team. I'm not sure that's gonna happen.

I've never heard so much muttering and dancing around a question after Bernie asked DeWitt if Tony was upset at the decision or even at him.clevername wrote:specifically mentioned beginning a search for a new GM.
talked to Tony this afternoon and he hasn't made a decision yet.

True. Walt going to another team on his own accord is one thing, the divide being so bad that the Cards let Walt go is a surprise.Tambourine Man wrote:Yeah, where there's smoke, there's fire. But this sounds like much more than what I could've ever expected.maddash wrote:Tambourine Man wrote:Wow.
Dewitt: "Differences regarding baseball issues." "Tension had gotten to the point that it was counterproductive."
Not to sound like a sourpuss... but all things the local media talked about and many here didn't believe (although, probably with good reason).
The media hasn't really pressed on what exactly the differences were over though....

Can someone get DeWitt a comb?
Lamping sounds level-headed.

espn's story has this quote:
The team's streak of seven consecutive winning seasons came to an end this season, after Jocketty was unable to lure impact free agents to St. Louis because ownership did not increase payroll coming off the championship season.

That muttering and dancing provided the real answer to the question, didn't it? DeWitt isn't a very good fibber, is he?docellis wrote:that was ridiculousBW23 wrote: I've never heard so much muttering and dancing around a question after Bernie asked DeWitt if Tony was upset at the decision or even at him.

- "Cordially and respectfully parted ways"
- Now time to move forward with an undivided division.
- Mutual admiration and respect.
- Begin search tomorrow for new GM.
- Spoke to TLR this afternoon, and he has yet to make a decision.
- Different philosophy and vision; tension was real and became counterproductive.
- Well-documented division over the last couple of years.
- Walt didn't agree with Luhnow promotion.
- It's up to Mo if he wants to be a candidate.
- Time-table for replacement is ASAP
- Tony didn't offer opinion.
- Mutual agreement between Walt and DeWitt.
- Walt was definitely not %100 happy.
- Doesn't signal a philosophical change. Scouting is bearing fruit and that is a strong commitment, but the Cardinals still have the resources to remain competitive.
- This decision doesn't have anything to do with TLR.
- Mo will work in the same way as Walt while he's the interim GM.
- Payroll will be determined by what's available.
- Walt will be paid next year, and he's free to pursue other opportunities.
- What will happen with Tony was a distraction this year, and was for Walt as well.
