People in the gift shop while the game is going on.

Post by jim »

Everytime they show a live shot of the giftshop at the stadium there are people in there SHOPPING! What is that all about? You can get the same crap on the internet, why shop while the game is going on?

My other rant is the people strolling into the game late. They look so relaxed. 2nd inning, and they are just casually walking around. I'd be sprinting, a look of total panic on my face.

Squirmy kids would be one reason.

My first ever Cards series, yes you all know the sad story, saw people leave every game in the seventh. I was saying, 'What the hell? I drive 12 hours and you show up late and leave early?'

Did anybody see the kid watching the portable DVD player at the game last night?

The gift shop, the game room, the concession stand, or just standing at a table chewing the fat. It's all over the place. There are a bunch of people inside the stadium watching the game (multiple innings) on the monitors. And they install tons of these monitors so that people will do exactly that (and spend more money) Very similar to my similar recent rant.

Wow, that is sacreligious.

...unless he was watching the 2006 World Series DVDs, which compared to watching Miles and Kennedy, I can totally understand.

Is it such a big deal? I mean, a lot of people view a baseball game as they do a trip to Disneyland. It's a fun event to attend with a lot of spectacle and distractions. It's just entertainment for some. I don't see anything wrong with it. Just because you paid to see a baseball game doesn't mean that's what other people paid for. I'll watch the game, and if my wife wants to go do something else for a little while, I'm not going to hold it against her.

It'd be great if all those tickets went to hardcore fans. But hardcore fans of any entertainment are a small minority. Casual fans keep entertainment businesses afloat.

Having said that, the kid with the DVD player is taking things too far. At least the other stuff is part of the ballpark experience.

I confess...I used to do this with my friends at Busch II every now and then, just to cool off. Some of those day games were so f-ing hot, we were soaking wet by the 2nd inning, we'd stroll through the gift shop (only pretending to look) then head back to our seats. Another "cooling" option was the Redbird Inn inside Busch II, but that's history.

(Maybe this should be in the sports confessions thread??!) :(

you know, some people do just go to a game for entertainment and enjoyment..
it's not a life and death situation to every person in the world.. just sayin'..

Regarding the shoppers, it has been in the mid to upper 90's at the ballpark the past 2 nights. I have to assume people just wanted to cool off. Plus there are TV's in the gift shop so you can keep up with what's going on in the game.
