What is the big deal about having a thread move? I just don't really get it I guess. One extra click and you can go see all the light hearted topics you want in the social forum. We leave shadow topics so you can see the thread title in baseball talk until it gets knocked off the first page.

Conversely, you could argue that if it doesn't matter which forum a topic goes in, there's no reason to move them. Clearly, it matters.

And when you move them, I find myself asking myself, 'Hmm...baseball or social'. And you also leave me scratching my head as to why something about Mike Shannon doesn't qualify for baseball, but something about Rick Horton does. Is it the poster? It just leaves an opening for those questions.

Jim has explained this earlier. Don't hesitate even a second to post any topic. Post it wherever you want. Mods will make sure it's put in the right place.

I agree with this. Some threads start out as legit baseball threads and then get derailed, usually by referencing old CT jokes or forum insider jokes (which is an entirely different version of exclusion).

Where should we draw the line? Should any thread that has a casual relationship to baseball be in BT? I want GRB to be considered the place for elite Cardinal baseball discussions and I found it frustrating that there was a growing amount of silliness that was pushing good threads down. Admittedly when I moved the Shannon thread I thought there was a grey area and I hated moving it. The problem is if I didn’t move it then I would have been accused of favoritism. Perhaps it would be better if I amended the guidelines to include Shannon type threads while keeping out the following:

-Picture threads
-Ticket sales
-Onion articles
-CUBS SUX LOLZ
-Threads that are created to pop off a joke and not to generate baseball discussions

I don't mean to be offensive when I ask this, but--why?

It's understandable that we don't want flame wars here (that's the big reason that CT is a failure IMO, not the quality of the material present), but it certainly seems like one fan gets catered to more than the others.

I can't help but think of jim's post a few months ago when he called Josh Hancock "the official trouper of the St. Louis Cardinals." Now, cabby started the Gary Bennett fan club. They look, to me anyways, to be pretty much the same thread.

So why is one in baseball talk and one in social? (NOTE: I'm pretty sure neither one was moved to its current forum, but just pointing out a fact). I honestly can't help but think that the reason is because one was written by jim and one by cabby. If jim's was allowed in Baseball Talk, shouldn't Cabby's be moved there (has anything ever been moved to Baseball Talk?)

I'm just asking. I think it's good we have strong, hard-edged stats discussions. I think it's bad that it's almost all we have.

No offense at all. I like interesting baseball discussions and I want to attract good baseball posters (unlike myself ).
