Heck, BA had him as the 17th best prospect in this years draft if he didnt sign. So, if he is worth that those other guys are worth a ton more.UK wrote:With his abilities, he's deserving of a large deal.

He has missed his last couple of starts with arm problemsthrill wrote:Why a no on Brackman? Too Mark McCormickish for your tastes?MrCrowesGarden wrote:Johnathan Mayo's mock draft had us selecting RHP Jake Arrieta from TCU.
Kevin Goldstein's mock had us selecting RHP Andrew Brackman from NC State.
I hope neither of those happen.

Pretty much. I don't like the idea of drafting a college pitcher who would be a "project" and could take as long to develop as a HS pitcher.thrill wrote:Why a no on Brackman? He could turn out to be the next Randy Johnson and prove me wrong, but I don't think so.

and he's missing the regionals with elbow problems.Mephistopheles wrote:Brackman's stuff is significantly better than McCormicks. While you could draft a HS pitcher and develop him. There may only be one or two HS pitchers that rival his combination of a power fastball and power curve. Maybe Main, Parker or Porcello. His stuff is that good.
I feel for the kid, he's going through a lot right now, including his girlfriend dying in a car crash...but I think he's got bust written all over him.

i don't know about that. mccormick was clocked as high as 101 mph with his fastball and his curveball is pretty filthy when it is on. brackman throws high 90's when he's right, but i have never heard him hitting triple digits.Mephistopheles wrote:Brackman's stuff is significantly better than McCormicks. Andrew Brackman was also clocked as high as 101 and there were some whispers that he got over that once or twice. The thing about Brackman is he's so raw because he's been doubling as a power-forward much of his life. He's a lot like Jeff Samardzija in that respect. McCormick wasn't that. We shouldn't expect Brackman to be that advanced. However, once you look at his pure stuff, if you want a guy to work with who do you take? A pitcher who is 6'10" with off the charts stuff, good athletic pedigree and a good college proven work ethic, or the HS stuff with great stuff, decent athletic pedigree and unknown work ethic. A lot of the risks in a HS player aren't athletic in nature. It's mental. That's what has ruined Mark Pawelek. He hasn't been able to adjust to life after HS, thus he's struggled. Had Pawly gone to college, this flaw would have been found.fewgoodcards wrote:i don't know about that. mccormick was clocked as high as 101 mph with his fastball and his curveball is pretty filthy when it is on. brackman throws high 90's when he's right, but i have never heard him hitting triple digits.Mephistopheles wrote:Brackman's stuff is significantly better than McCormicks. I personally hope he's available at 36.haltz wrote:Do you know much about this Justin Jackson kid? I was looking over this list and my eyes went to #18 and then I saw he was a SS, but I haven't heard anything about him otherwise or seen his name on any draft boards or mock drafts (that I can remember anyway).
Scouts describe him as having a fast bat, but a swing that can get long and loopy. He has excellent speed but not really a great first step. His arm, according to scouts, is his strongest tool.
You can watch a video of him here:
