on my current iPod playlist:

songs Statman digs:

that first charted in Jan-Feb 1960:

Code: Select all

Skokiaan - Billy Haley & His Comets
One Mint Julep - Chet Atkins
Smokie pt.2 - Bill Doggett
Let It Be Me - The Everly Brothers
Theme from a Summer Place - Percy Faith
Let the Good Times Roll - Ray Charles
Bulldog - Fireballs
Beyond The Sea - Bobby Darin
Since I Made You Cry	- The Rivieras
I Was Such A Fool - The Flamingos
Mediterranean Moon - The Rays
I'll Take Care Of You - Bobby Bland
Secret Of Love - Elton Anderson
Country Boy - Fats Domino
Lady Luck- Lloyd Price
Wild One - Bobby Rydell
Let It Rock	- Chuck Berry
Sixteen Reasons - Connie Stevens
Money - Barrett Strong
Fannie Mae - Buster Brown
Hully Gully	- The Olympics
Bad Boy - Marty Wilde
A Closer Walk With Thee - Pete Fountain
Don't Let The Sun Catch You Cryin' - Ray Charles
Beatnik Fly - Johnny & The Hurricanes
Outside My Window - The Fleetwoods
To Pooped To Pop - Chuck Berry
Teensville	- Chet Atkins
Baby, What You Want Me To Do - Jimmy Reed
Mashed Potatoes - Nat Kendricks & The Swans
You're My Baby - Sarah Vaughan
What's Happening - Wade Flemons
If You Need Me - Fats Domino
Let The Little Girl Dance - Billy Bland
Paradise - Sammy Turner
This Magic Moment - The Drifters
Angela Jones - Johnny Ferguson
Greenfields - Brothers Four
Let Them Talk - Little Willie John
i whittled this down from a playlist of every song that first charted (on the Billboard Hot 100) in this same 8 week time period; I reckon the original list was 3 or 4 times longer.

After going from a "Disco Sucks" teenager to a snobbish "if its popular it isn't cool" 'zine-writing 30-ish balding pony tail guy to my current shave-headed 40-something humble statman i have now reached a point where I have no shame and have finally shed all sense of "what is cool" and now just go by "what i like to listen to". No invisible hipsters are looking over my shoulder or whispering in my ear.

Although Blinky acts really embarrassed every time "Theme from a Summer Place" is on. But I caught him humming it the other day while he was bouncing around the living room in his plastic hamster ball.

Yes - that whole album (Till The Sun Turns Black) is very good, IMHO.
