Memphis won 9-3 against Omaha. Mike Parisi made his first start since April 21st and gave up 3 runs over 5 innings. John Rodriguez was 1 for 2 with 3 walks. Nick Stavinoha was 1 for 3. Box Log

Springfield lost 8-2 to Tulsa. Eric Haberer had a rough start and gave up 6 runs and 11 hits over 5 innings. He was very good in Palm Beach in 2005 and 2006, but he’s now had 14 starts in Springfield, and has an ERA of 4.93. PHILLYCARD suggested a move to the bullpen, and unless he improves quickly, that’s probably where he’s headed when Stuart Pomeranz comes back. On the positive side, Colby Rasmus and Jarrett Hoffpauir were each 2 for 4. Joe Mather had another homer. Box Log

Palm Beach lost 5-4 to the Daytona Cubs. Adam Daniels was done in by 4 unearned runs (5 total) over 6 innings. Nick Webber had 2 scoreless innings, which is good to see after 2 rough outings. Allen Craig was 2 for 4 and is now hitting .365 with an OPS of .991. Box Log

Quad Cities lost 1-0 to the Great Lakes Loons. Brad Furnish gave up 1 run over 4 innings with 4 Ks. Costarter Tyler Herron followed with 4 scoreless innings. Shortstop Christian Lopez was 2 for 4. He’s now hitting .370 with an OPS of 1.000. Box Log

He has moved around defensively from 3b/1b/of. He has had some decent years hitting, but seems to be busting out this year in his first year in AA with 11 home runs in 21 games.

Has good build (6-4, 225) but will turn 25 in July. Doing a pretty good Chris Duncan impression as far as development goes.

He is doing the same thing that Evans did last year. They were both drafted the same year.

Are Christian Lopez and Allen Craig the future left side of the Cardinal infield?

I’m still skeptical of both. Lopez spent 2 years at Johnson City and, for the most part, didn’t do much to distinguish himself. However, one of the posters on scout mentioned that last year he had a tendency to look really good one week and really bad the next. It’s also been reported that he put in a lot of work over the winter – that is a good sign. On the positive side, I think he’s the third youngest of the position players (about a year older than Donovan Solano and about 5 months older than Daryl Jones), so it is possible that he is finally putting everything together.

Likewise, Allen Craig had not been much of a standout until this year (outside of his final year in college). One thing I really wish I had is a scouting report about their defense. I know Craig has 6 errors already including a throwing error in last night that was responsible for 3 of Adam Daniels unearned runs. But that by itself doesn’t tell us much since he was primarily a shortstop before this season and is having to adapt to a new position this year.
