It was a hard-hit fly ball to left field. Duncan was going back on it (back to home plate) and he jumped up and tried to make a leaping catch.

If you remember the catch he made against Milwaukee, it was very similar to that... but he dropped it.

He reached up and slapped the ball with his glove.

(It would have been a nice play, but he was there, going back on the ball, and the only thing that kept him from catching it was putting the glove in the right place.)

It doesn't particularly matter if the play is routine....if he squeezes his glove he catches the ball

I don't see how there is anyway you can't call that an error
