Shoulder lands Dodgers starter Schmidt on DL

PHOENIX -- The Los Angeles Dodgers placed right-hander Jason Schmidt on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with shoulder inflammation. The move was retroactive to Sunday.

Schmidt had an MRI Monday in Phoenix and there is no timeframe for his return. The team is going to give him a few days off to see if the irritation subsides.

Just thought I'd drop by to serve a plate of "I told you so."

I recommended we avoid Schmidt like the plague. I'm glad our efforts to land him were unimpressive, and unsucessful.

I definitely remember that, and your original post about Schmidt and avoiding him was one of the first things I thought of when this thread was started.

I was a flip-flopper.

Last winter I said that he would not be worth it since he had durability issues and would be 34. Then upon realizing the rotation was in tatters, I thought the Cardinals should have picked him up.

I didn't want to pay the price mainly because he was 34 and his injury history.

Very similar thoughts came about during the whole AJ Burnett/Airport saga. If it had happened, I'd have said "great" and hoped and prayed for health but wouldn't expect it. In both cases, I'd have guessed right.

I'm glad Jocketty/the Cardinals did, too.

But I think I started wanting Schmidt after the season was over.

i heard Schmidt was throwing his fastballs in the 80s..How the heck does a power pitcher drop that much velocity ??
