Hold the Press
Not good for EI people...
Not so fast, said Bob DuPuy, baseball's chief operating officer.

"The communication sent to our office today by iN Demand is not responsive to that offer," he said. "In spite of their public comments, the response falls short of nearly all of the material conditions (among them requirements for carriage of The Baseball Channel and their share of the rights fees for Extra Innings) set forth in the Major League Baseball offer made to them on March 9."

Just bury your head in the sand until April 1. If you have mlb.tv and can cancel, cancel it. If you are going the DirectTV route just change your installation date to April 2. Then you can cancel last minute.

This is so lame. I wish they would just end this crap.

Reading this topic is like a rollercoaster ride. I'm ecstatic one minute, and one page later I'm greeted with a colossal disappointment.

I was very close to ordering MLB.tv, but I would strongly prefer to get Extra Innings. Why? Two major reasons:
- DVR; I can record games. I realize that MLB.tv offers the ability to watch archived games, but I think it will be a hassle. I usually get done with work at 9:00 PM... my guess is the game -- if done at 10:00 -- wouldn't be available on MLB.tv until 11:00 or later... I don't want to have to wait to watch the game.

- Extra Innings allows me to watch the game on my TV. Yes, my video card can output to my TV... but it's not the same. What if I want to change what game I'm watching? With my setup, I'd have to get up from my spot and change the game. It would be an incredibly lame hassle if I were flipping back and forth between games.

I've thought about buying a wireless mouse and stuff, but... there's no ideal way to do it. It's going to be a hassle.

I really, really hope they match this offer.

I had mlb.tv for a couple of days, and I personally didn't think it was that great. It's really a last resort for me.

Anyone have a contact at MLB to voice a complaint?

I had MLB.tv last year as a complement to Extra Innings and didn't mind it, but I think going through cable makes things a lot easier.

I think there is posturing going on. One of two things:

1. The cable companies fully intends to supply EI and is simply trying to get the best possible deal.

2. The cable companies have no intention of meeting the offer, and is simply putting out something to make it look like they did right by their customers. If this is true, then it's smart because right now there is no way MLB is going to come out on top of this PR battle.
