Is Taguchi in danger?

Post by clement »

I love So, but he has been horrendous offensively this spring. Anyone know how his defense is looking? Tony has some tough decisions to make. I know that Ankiel, Schumaker, and Rodriguez all have options (unless I'm mistaken), so that has to be factored in. And with Encarnacion and possibly Edmonds out to start the year, I don't imagine So will be let loose before opening day. But do you think there's any chance So gets traded (or set loose) before May 1st?

I hope.

I think the guy is awesome but I don't think he's that good.

Would much rather see someone like Schumaker.

I think So may get the same scrutiny Roger Cedeno (another post-season hero) got a couple of years ago. Cedeno was released mid-season, about a half season longer than what it should have been.

With Skip performing the way he has, there is really no reason to carry Taguchi. Other than personal ties and sentimentality.

I agree with you Kyle. I appreciate what Taguchi has done for the Cards, but it's time for him to move on.

Our 5 outfielders should be Edmonds,Duncan,Wilson,Schumaker and JRod. If Edmonds is hurt to start the season then Marrero should take his spot.

And for the record: I don't think Schumaker has much upside, it's just that I don't think So does, either. Taguchi is on the decline. At least with Scott we have the Taguchi of the future, and at 1/3rd the cost.

I have always liked Schumaker and think he was held back last season

I would take Marrero over J Rod simply because of his ability to catch and play some first base--he is a much better defensive outfielder than JRod IMO and thats what good teams need in late innings.

I was hoping Schumaker would take So's spot even before So's bad spring.

I don't know what it was(people theorized that there was something wrong with So's eyesight?), but So was afraid to catch line drives on more than one occasion and just let it drop right in front of him so it wouldn't get by him and he almost never did that before; the most famous example being right before that Beltran walk-off homer against Izzy during the regular season in that game against the Mets.

His bat should equal Taguchi's typical production(and eventually be better), his speed is better, and his defense might even be better right now AND he's cheaper. I'd prefer Schumaker, even though I love the So-man.
