Atlanta manager Walt Weiss confirmed that Hurston Waldrep will start Thursday's game against the Cardinals

The 24 year old RHP made his debut last week in relief but is expected to potentially join Atlanta's rotation at least for the time being. Elder's turn is being skipped but he is expected to return to the rotation next week. Waldrep is not expected to work more than five or six innings, regardless of how well he's pitching. Since completing his recovery from a Feb. 23 elbow procedure and beginning a rehab stint at the beginning of June, Waldrep hasn't tossed more than 71 pitches or covered more than 4.2 innings in any outing.

The Cardinals and Braves face off in the deciding game of a 3 game set in Atlanta.

St. Louis is 21-18 on the road and 44-39 overall. The Cardinals have gone 32-14 in games when they record eight or more hits.

Atlanta is 25-15 at home and 50-34 overall. The Braves have the ninth-ranked team on-base percentage in the NL at .311.

The Cardinals offense will try to break through vs Waldrep as they have not been able to do much against the Braves bullpen thus far in this series.

LAST 10 GAMES

Cardinals: 4-6, .221 batting average, 4.60 ERA, outscored by 13 runs

Braves: 3-7, .188 batting average, 3.56 ERA, outscored by 11 runs
