Brandon Carlo for 2 3rd picks; last year of his contract

There’s your 3rd pairing RHD. No offense to speak of but very solid def
Very solid guy to stabilize the right side but this seems like a poor use of resources unless we think he could be a medium term fit for another few years. He is only 29 so maybe if he’s a good fit they see a 4 year extension. Maybe they think they can take a step this year.

Interesting week. Probably the most interesting offseason since 19. I think, other than our rfas, we’re basically done. Team ready.
I think this is a great deal. Toronto gave up a top-5 protected first round pick for him just last season (which of course they luckily kept this year). Very solid D man.

This video about Carlo was from a year ago.

Looks like we did not give QOs to Berggren or Kessel. I kinda wanted us to bring back Berggren initially, but now I feel like we have more than enough players since we’ve added MCM and MCT and only lost Kyrou. The only downside is iirc he played a fair amount of rw.

I’m not as familiar with how offers work in the NHL, but I think the Blues can still sign him? I think he’s a decent 4th line / depth option.

Yeah iirc they will just become UFA. Looks like Breg made almost $2m on his last contract so maybe they want him back at closer to the minimum or something.

Sounds like they are buying out Drouin's contract, and plan to re-sign Berggren. I'm alright with that - Drouin didn't really show that he was worth his salary, and we're already flush with LW's. Plus using an h in Jonathan is overrated.

Ok wait what? We didn’t qo Breg, but are resigning him for a small raise? I mean, okay. I’m fine with it as we need another RW or two, but just seems odd. (I don’t know what the QO was, maybe it was more than $2m. /shrug)

He’s got to be your 3rd line RW (at least in a timeshare) so where does that leave Stenberg and Suter?

I can see the team being done, but I can also see them trying to turn some LW into a middle 6 RW. Who knows.

Honestly, Drouin is a guy who can probably take a 12-14th forward spot on a lot of teams, (Kind of like how Carlo is likely a good 6th dman for us this year). Buying him out probably helps him stick in the NHL somewhere and saves us a few bucks. He’s only 31, and between the buyout money and the $1m salary ish I assume he’ll get from someone, its not much of a drop in pay and probably gives him a chance to earn another 2-3 year 4th line deal. (Actually, after what Edmonton has paid their bottom 6 guys, maybe someone Gives Drouin $1.5m or a bit more.)

Free agent frenzy set to start in a little over 2 hours. I'm fully expecting the Blues to sign.......no one of note. However I hold out some sliver of dumb hope that we can lure back a fan favorite or two - Perron, Schwartz, or Tarasenko. Tarasenko would actually be a great fit on RW for this team, on a third line. But I doubt he's over the beefs he had with the Blues organization.

If Albert can come home, so can Tarasenko. I would LOVE this. I think all fans would.
