Yeah, but Joey Jaws is coming to Memphis. That's the important news.

In Springfield, Mason Molina. St. Louis' no. 29 prospect tied a career high with nine strikeouts tonight.

Liam Doyle's line tonight:
4 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 6 K, 2 BB, 2 HR
Current ERA: 5.86
I try to tell myself it's way early, they're working with him on development of supplemental pitches, I shouldn't be concerned, etc.
But for a 5th overall pick, aren't pitchers normally already a bit more polished than this? I didn't expect a #5 pick to be such a project. Yeah, I suppose I need to be patient.......but am I out of line in thinking that maybe a draft pick this high should have already been more developed in the first place?

Always was a fastball heavy arm who needed to improve his secondaries to remain a starter. He could probably pitch in the big leagues as a reliever today, but to reach a starter outcome, he will need to command and improve his secondaries.
The story is that is what he's focused on in the minor leagues, but the results are slow and non-linear, as development often is.

Definitely expect to see some growing pains when pushed to the AA level like this. I'd obviously rather we have taken Seth Hernandez, but he's probably about where you'd expect him to be in his development at this point.st.lewis11 wrote: ↑June 10 26, 8:00 pmLiam Doyle's line tonight:

Re: Re: Minor League News 2026
I'm not sure if things have changed, but I know Texas League used to be pretty hitter friendly. And in that mix, I think Springfield's park is among the most homer friendly.
FWIW, while his ERA is 5.86 and that ranks him 31st in Texas League, his FIP is 4.37 and that puts him 10th in the league. BABIP against him is .381
This is the top 10 in FIP there. Kade Anderson must really be something.
