Rick Steves

Post by mikechamp »

No, he didn't die. Quite the opposite:
Rick Steves beat cancer. His next challenge: Teaching Americans to embrace culture shock.

Rick Steves has built a travel empire, but he still only flies economy and brings a single carry-on. At 70, it’s a formula he hasn’t outgrown — and one that still fuels him. “Travel is my fountain of youth,” the Rick Steves’ Europe host tells Yahoo.

He’s about to head off on a 50-day excursion to Europe, where he’ll update some of his famous travel guides, and he’s practically buzzing thinking about it. “It's like breathing straight oxygen,” he says. “I don’t need to do this” — with a team now running his tours that take 30,000 people to Europe each year — “but I love it. It's my spa. It's my exercise.”

GF and I are planning a trip to Spain, Portugal and France in the fall. Watching some of his videos and got several of his books from the library. Glad he beat cancer!
