It's the coldest stretch of weather of the year so of course we have cows that are calving. So last night about midnight or so one of our cows gave birth and the calf was struggling. Our house is right across the road and our garage is warmish so I loaded up the calf and took it to the garage. I sat with it until about 3am and it was doing better so I got cleaned up and went to bed.
At about 6am this morning I hear this loud scream from the garage and then a moo. I spring up and run towards the garage only to see my wife coming through the door with a shocked look on her face "There's a baby cow in the garage!" So I had to explain the situation which she was fine with.
The life lesson. Always tell your wife if you are going to put a calf in the garage in the middle of the night.

Weather must be a lot different there. Calving before late March is unheard of in the Northern Plains. But yeah, cows are very good at picking the worst possible weather to become moms.
