Fowler resigns: 3 years at 6.1m per.

He will be 37 when the deal ends. I know he’s been great but I worry about that age related decline.

I wouldn’t have done that deal; why do we like to re-sign d guys till they’re old? It never works out
Just let them play their contract out

I don't mind that extension. Those other D guys weren't that good to begin with. Fowler is darn good with the puck and skilled as a skater. Even if his skating falls off a bit, he has a great hockey IQ to still play at a good level. It's not like a Nick Leddy situation.

37 years old is pretty damn old for an nhl defensemen, but oh wellst.lewis11 wrote: ↑September 27 25, 9:18 pmI don't mind that extension. Those other D guys weren't that good to begin with. Re: Blues Off-season and 2025-26 Season
To be fair on the signing, as a % of the cap, he is about 4.2% of the cap now ($4m on an $95.5m cap), but absolutely has been a $6m player for us. (Probably more than $6m) and the extension costs less than both Faulk and Krug. Also he would be 6.8% of the cap at his full $6.5m salary if Anaheim wasn’t helping us)
His extension puts him at about 5.8/9% ($6.1m on a $104m cap) in 2026/27, 5.4% ($6.1m on a $113.5m cap) the following year. I’m guessing he’ll be about 5% of the cap in his final year. Honestly, if he just stays as a top4 Dman, that contract is fine. Just again depends on what his age related decline looks like. I am having Scandella and Leddy flashbacks though. (Looks like a perfect fit for part of a year and then the contract is UGH) Then again, neither Scandella nor Leddy were near as good as Fowler was with us. Night and day. Still though, 37. Yikes.
I’m guessing this also means we explored the market as best we could on young LD and are staying out of the current market. (Barring an unforeseen opportunity one would think)
I’m thinking this also signals they don’t see any of the kids hitting top 4 status for 2-3 years so you have a top4 vet pairing (Fowler and Parayko) and a top4 kid pairing (Broberg and Mailloux) and then you aim for the next pair of kids to be ready to push for a top4 role in about 2-3 (probably 3) years.

I like it. I think he found his love for the game again after coming here. I'm not saying he's exactly like Jay-Bo, but the situation reminds me of that. I think this contract will be worth it. The last year might be rough but I think he'll have given us surplus value by then.

Re: Blues Off-season and 2025-26 Season
McDavid takes a short term extension; 2 years at 12.5 per
Then immediately the oilers go and sign jake [expletive] walman to a 7x7 extension?!?
They’re just so stupid lol
