its really annoying watching the padres, year after year, make headlining trades with their never-ending supply of prospects while a team like the cardinals have made the fewest trades/signings in the last five years and acquire absolutely 0 talent.
they traded the #3 prospect in all of MiLB, Leo De Vries (along with 3 other named players) phins may know a lot about him, but I don't see anything in his stats that scream #3 overall prospect other than being 18 at A+ ball?
i buy into the conspiracy theory that coastal teams prospects are inflated by the industry

Now that the Mariners have acquired Eugenio Suárez, do you the market for Arenado will increase?
Goold mentioned they approached Arenado and he's still unwilling to expand his list of teams...so unless one of them comes calling?

also mentioned gray and contreras also said they're not going to waive their NTC either

well [expletive]...you know that now means they're going to re-sign him to mentor/lead the staff again with gray

Go get Matt Manning and put him in the rotation for 10 starts. It probably won’t work out but what do they have to lose? Who else is going to pitch?

The owner runs the team like a business...because he put us here by taking on partners for BPV who are essentially shareholders of the Cardinals.

Think about how a stock can actually go down when they show good earnings for a quarter...it's because analysts expected even more earnings or an even higher growth percentage. DeWitt has investors into BPV expecting a certain return on their investment and he's forced to run the team like a business to maximize profit to make sure he hits their expectations.

BPV is the beginning of the Cardinals' spending problems in reality (along with COVID).

FanGraphs now his him at #21, essentially with Wetherholt. I'd take Wetherholt due to proximity, but De Vries is a holy moly good prospect to dream on.

You've hit on the main selling point for him is that he's at high-A (a league full of SEC arms and good recent college draftees) and performing well. A 116 wRC+ at an advanced A-ball level and 4.3 years younger than the average player in his league? 16% better than the average hitter in a league he is 4.3 years younger than the average player and he's a SS with plus arm strength?

And he switch hits? And he's performed everywhere he's ever played. If he were in this last draft (perfectly reasonable considering he is still 18), he's a top-5 pick. No doubts, buts, or questions.

I don't know...that's a pretty good prospect.

Along with the cascading problems with the FSN/Bally/FanDuel RSN's. Cardinals got very complacent with their stable revenue streams, and have seemingly had no idea how to respond to these changes.

I get the sense that BDW III is a straight-up nepo baby who has no clue how to actually run a successful business.

Other than scowl and roll his eyes when he hears that fans are disappointed.
