USA Today's Bob Nightengale recently dropped the bombshell report that indicated Mikolas and Gray would both be unwilling to waive their respective no-trade clauses if the Cardinals tried to deal them away from St. Louis.
"Cardinals starters Sonny Gray and Miles Mikolas still say they have no interest in leaving St. Louis, and would exercise their no-trade clauses to veto any potential deals," Nightengale wrote.
Outside of a couple of traveling little league teams, no one would be interested in signing Mikolas
This really is the funniest trade news nugget I’ve ever read. Miles will be out of major league baseball next year. The risk of the Cardinals finding a taker for him is 0.
He obv sucks and the FO knows it.
I just don’t understand why you don’t just cut him and let mathews take his spot and get his feet wet
I wish we weren't so lacking of quality bats, because otherwise I'd consider Herrera as trade bait. Never was a fan of pushing for a position change, only for him to suck at D anywhere else. And I don't think it's good roster construction to have a "DH only" guy. I'm hoping the team doesn't give up on Herrera as a catcher, need him to work hard on drills/skills in the off-season. I just don't see any great D from Pages that he supposedly has, certainly not enough to make up for his paltry bat. We really need Herrera's value to be at catcher. But if Herrera's future is being a DH only, then I would at think about trading him.
If Helsley, Maton or Matz is on the team after the deadline, they should lock Mozeliak in the arch and make him watch every Mikolas pitch from the last three seasons on a loop until he’s 80.
Gotta hand it to Mozeliak. A .500 team with four catchers, no hitters with an OPS over .800 and no starters with an ERA below 4 is his masterpiece. He’s going out on top.
Brendan Donovan is the Cardinals most valuable player by WAR. Only the Rockies have a less productive best player by WAR, and the Pirates are the only other team without a less productive position player
I imagine many of you have already seen this, but I thought I'd put it here. A nice rundown of our roster, with surplus value amounts per player, and a quick synopsis of their likelihood to be traded:
