The Cardinals are planning on keeping third baseman Nolan Arenado through the deadline with no teams showing strong interest in him since he rejected potential deals to the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Angels.
The problem with trading Arenado is he's still owed 27 million for '26 and 15 million for '27 and even if he waives the no trade clause this year he would have to waive it again for the teams trading for him to trade him again. If he was on the last year of his contract and would just be a rental for the rest of this years and didn't have the no trade clause standing in the way a few teams might take a flier on him. But I just don't think anyone is interested in paying him an average of 21 million the next 2 years for a guy who's an average MLB player now and can only get worse as time goes on.

Mikolas and Gray would both be unwilling to waive their respective no-trade clauses

USA Today's Bob Nightengale recently dropped the bombshell report that indicated Mikolas and Gray would both be unwilling to waive their respective no-trade clauses if the Cardinals tried to deal them away from St. Louis.
"Cardinals starters Sonny Gray and Miles Mikolas still say they have no interest in leaving St. Louis, and would exercise their no-trade clauses to veto any potential deals," Nightengale wrote.
Outside of a couple of traveling little league teams, no one would be interested in signing Mikolas

++

To be shocked when reading that, you'd have to be sticking a metal fork in an electrical outlet at the same time.

Like Sports Illustrated, a bombshell ain't what it used to be.

I’ll wager the Cardinals don’t acquire anyone as good as Caleb Durbin at this deadline.

They'll just acquire guys similar to Tekoah Roby.

Do we have anything that might pry Mick Abel from the Phillies?

This really is the funniest trade news nugget I’ve ever read. Miles will be out of major league baseball next year. The risk of the Cardinals finding a taker for him is 0.
