Found this nugget in an STLToday article.
Saad carries a $4.5 million cap hit through the end of next season, and has seven goals in 43 games this season. If Saad is assigned to Springfield, he will still count $3.35 million on the Blues cap, as only $1.15 million of his cap hit can be buried in the AHL.

The guys on 101 ESPN had clips from the Army presser earlier. He said he was trying to trade Saad, and there were simply no takers for him. My guess is he clears waivers and goes to AHL.

Not sure what that does to the cap for the rest of the year.
That surprises me. The contract isn’t bad and only has another year. Seems like a team with tons of space could use a guy like that. Oh well!

Same. Barring a terrible run in the minors, I’ll bet a team comes calling late summer or early next year once an injury hits or a team misses out on a fa etc. we might have to retain some salary, but I’ll bet someone takes a flier on him for one year 2.25m ish

Well technically he had 3 goals in one game, and 4 goals in 42 other games.

I am a bit shocked that there have been no suitors for Saad. He’s a great glue guy for a contending team.

I was wondering since army said they’re not bringing anyone up and he just wants Tex to play, why they didn’t just scratch Saad instead of Tex, and put in Tex and scratch Saad? Why the need to waive him? Then I read this…
Armstrong later said, “I’ve got to say this the correct way: If I want to see Texier play, the less options that the coach has, the more likely he’s going to play.”
I wonder if there’s already a disconnect between army and Monty? He has to remove a guy so the coach can’t play him?

If that's true, yeesh. That sounds dysfunctional.

Didn't they just hire Montgomery and were all excited to do so?

Wow
Saad will walk away from his remaining salary this season and the $3.63M (cash) next year.

He wants to play in the NHL; both player and team felt this gave him the best opportunity to do so. Next year's salary and cap hit ($4.5M) was a big hurdle for other teams

Saad will go on waivers again tomorrow to terminate the contract. Once he clears, he will be an unrestricted free agent

So we get the clear the roster spot and clear all the money and cap space

Pretty cool of saad to do that. I’d have taken the money as you know he’s not going to get as much if/when he does sign somewhere
