So Alaska is epic. I could do without cruising.

To elaborate. Vacation was fun. We flew from STL to Seattle. Let me just say I hate flying. Not like I'm afraid to fly or anything like that, I actually enjoy looking out the window and watching the world go buy. It's like google maps in real time. But everything surrounding flying is awful. I'm sure you guys know this though. I will say Alaska air is extra sucky. Our flight out of STL was fine though, everything was on time and went well. Going home, not so much. There were delays, they moved the gate of our flight 4 times, once completely across the air port, which in Seattle is huge. The flight ended up being a couple hours late, no reason given. It's always hot on a plane and I sat behind a very nice Indiana fellow who bathed in curry before the flight.

We booked everything through the cruise company so touching down in Seattle, grab our luggage, and a nice Chevy Suburban took us to the hotel. We get checked in and decide to explore. Well my wife and I did. My Grandparent in laws are terrified of cities because Fox News has told them they will be killed just for going to one. Seattle is interesting because you may be at a hippstery gentrified shopping area and across the street is just total blight and destruction. It was odd. Speaking of odd we see images of CVSs being raided on TV and it's hard to believe it's real, but we went to one to grab something and it was very barren and there were two police officers standing guard inside. We had already planned to go next year to hit up the National Parks in Washington but we will probably take another day or two to explore Seattle more.

The next day we got on the ship. I knew about five minutes in Cruising wasn't my thing. There are way too many people crammed into that thing. Dinner is loud and congested, and you are always dodging people anywhere you go. Food in general was average, but the cabin was nice and comfy. I also hate how they nickel and dime you with everything, which we largely avoided but it was still annoying and made for a less fun experience.

Alaska is amazing. The towns we stopped at were really touristy and I swear I've never seen so many jewelry stores in my life. We went to Dawes Glacier which was pretty cool, and we got to hike at Mendenhall Glacier which was really cool because hiking is better than sitting on a boat and looking. We took the Skagway scenic railway which was really beautiful. I also enjoy trains though so I may have been bias.

Ultimately it was a great time, but being on a cruise really made all the towns and sites we stopped at seem a little rushed. Not to mention you get dumped off in a small town with three other cruise ships so all the sudden a town of 2000 people has 15000 people. It would be fun to explore when there wasn't a cruise, which I'm sure is never at this point. We will definitely head back that way someday. Alaska is a must do.

I got altitude sickness.

Been there (literally every time I go above 12,000 ft), my friend. How long did it take you to acclimate. I'd imagine the combo of dehydrating air travel, altitude, and jet lag would get me for a couple of days.

I think it took me about a week, but it's tough at say because after an early hike that went up to 4000m I didn't have anything too challenging until near the end of the two week trip. I think the jet lag really affected me. I knew I was in trouble when I was riding a bike on a slight incline and I was wheezing ha ha.

Seriously, Bhutan is one of the most pristine and beautiful destinations I've ever been to. Very untouched. It's expensive and a pain to get to, but the rewards are huge. Unless you are super in to high altitude trekking I'd choose Bhutan over Nepal any day of the week. You'd dig it the most, thril.
