Perfect world; DC, TON, Noot stay healthy and Walker DH’s.
Next year I'd start playing Walker more at 1B with Goldschmidt DHing.

Too bad they’re counterintuitive to winning as well 🤷🏻‍♂️
TON is one of the best OFers in the game defensively when healthy and Carlson is fine if platooned.

Just need an upgrade over Burleson and to end the Walker experiment in the OF.

Will the 2024 staff Ace be better than Jordan Montgomery
Not sure I have a problem with that depending on what other starter is acquired.

If rotation is some combination of:

Montgomery
Mikolas
Pitcher acquired via trade
Matz
Hudson/Liberatore/Kloffenstein/Robberse/Graceffo/McGreevy/Hjerpe/Rom/Woodford

I don't see that necessarily as a bad thing. All of those guys aside from Hudson and Woodford would have options left, right, aside from maybe Liberatore?
That looks like the same [expletive] in a different box.

I've thought that all season but people freak out about overall value at DH, keeping it open for situations like Donovans throwing, etc.

Why can't we have a designated Designated Hitter? He can learn 1B on Goldy off days to take over after he leaves.
I don’t remember where I read this; but the AL develops DH hitters; NL’s adaption of the DH is rotate to give guys days off. Will be that way until they have time to develop pure hitters at DH.

Not really as they at least have some younger pitchers beyond Liberatore who could be serviceable as a starter.

Before they were penciling in Woodford as a #5 and didn't have the 4 guys (I forgot Roby) they acquired via trade.

Some upside is better than none.

And the pitcher acquired via trade that I would target would be someone that's slightly better than Flaherty without the injury problems. That would be an actual improvement compared to the roster relying on 3 guys with injury histories and a guy who is in his 40's that was showing serious wear and tear concerns at the end of last season.

If he must play OF then Walker is a pure hitter I guess. Let's start the trend.

Might as well take advantage of Goldy being around. Yadi isn't the only player that young guys can learn from. Goldy has Gold Gloves too.

Maybe we can bring back Montgomery and Flaherty for the rotation and shore up the bullpen with Jordan Hicks for 24

I don't know what to say then.

Last year you wanted to sell the farm for Soto. They didn't and you did not agree with that decision.
This year you wanted them to be sellers at the deadline. They did and you did not agree with the approach as to who they acquired.

What would be your plan?

I seriously don't know what more they could have done to put themselves in a better position for the off-season than they did now to improve the roster for 2024 short of trading any of the everyday or regular playing time fielders for a starting pitcher that is currently in MLB. And doing so, aside from trading Edman or Donovan, would seriously hamper in the IF or OF.
