Going by these comments and the comments from Marmol about his talks with the front office, they're trying to make it where they're never sellers at the deadline again. Meaning, they definitely gonna have to give up some good players outside of expiring contracts.

If they never want to be sellers again they will have to start being buyers in the offseason.

That's a fact! I said yesterday, that's going to be the real sign if they're serious

Buster Olney with his agenda-driven piece, which calls the Cardinals’ prices too high.

It will take an entire philosophy change. They’ve let modern baseball pass them by, yet are leaving the very people who allowed that to happen in charge of the process.

No [expletive]! “Buyers think prices of sellers are too much!” is no headline.

We would’ve already made a trade with the Cardinals, if only they would accept our [expletive] prospects for their players!

I think the logjam gets cleared up in the off-season.

I think it is clear that buyers think prices are too low, so they are waiting to make a deal when they can give up a more fair package.

If you trade Carlson and then TON misses any time, which he will, you’re looking at a brutal defensive outfield. OTOH, Carlson is utterly hopeless hitting left-handed and the Cardinals can’t seem to fix it.

I assume the Edman in CF thing is preparation for Winn arriving and Carlson departing. You can’t put Burleson and Walker in the same outfield on a regular basis.
