House of the Dragon (HOT D) (possible spoilers ahead)
Figured I'd kickstart the discussion and if mods don't think this warrants a separate (spoilers) thread, then please by all means merge with TV.
I mentioned in the TV thread that i was finding it hard to get excited about some HOT D, but after watching the 1st episode--i am 100% on board.
I think what did it for me was was the GOT tie-in, even alluding to the existential threat, which i found to be very interesting.
I think perhaps HBO maybe learned from their mistake of allowing the double D's to completely ruin an epic series. And they did ruin it. There's no argument there. I can' imagine being a book reader having to sit and watch that [expletive].
Anyway, i don't really think there's much to spoil since its Better Call Saul formatting where we already know what happens...it's just about the journey there.

I enjoyed the first episode and have been successfully hooked to the point that I will continue watching each week. It seems pretty obvious what the plotlines will be but...dragons are cool.

I'm pretty disappointed you didn't make a HOT D joke. What have you become?CardsofSTL wrote: ↑August 22 22, 10:05 amI enjoyed the first episode and have been successfully hooked to the point that I will continue watching each week. Anyway, I will grudgingly watch the first episode and see if it does anything for me. If not, I'm bailing quick. I'm not generally into this kind of genre, but I watched GOT and like just about everyone, enjoyed it until the final season.

Those guys screwed up some things but you've got to blame GRRM for a lot of it. They ran a really good show for 4 seasons and then started having to make things up based on where they kinda-sorta thought things might be going. The last book to be released came out during the first season of the show. The only think I think book readers can complain was screwed up was the Sand Snakes, but they weren't particularly interesting in the book as written IMO. I suppose Arya's story could've been adapted better, but it wasn't too far off as I recall.go birds wrote: ↑August 22 22, 9:58 amFigured I'd kickstart the discussion and if mods don't think this warrants a separate (spoilers) thread, then please by all means merge with TV.

sure...great at adapting a story...terrible at writing a story.ghostrunner wrote: ↑August 22 22, 12:54 pmThose guys screwed up some things but you've got to blame GRRM for a lot of it. it was pretty obvious they were mailing things in the last couple of seasons. GRRM definitely deserves blame as well, but it the the DD's show.

In retrospect I think George should have just quit the books and decided to finish the story on the TV show. Pretty clear we’re not getting more than one book at this point. If that.
Of course, ultimately he should do what he wants. It’s his story to finish or not.

The annoying part, for me, is he keeps writing books. Just not finishing ASOIAF.ghostrunner wrote: ↑August 22 22, 5:29 pmIn retrospect I think George should have just quit the books and decided to finish the story on the TV show.
