On this date 55 years ago, Roberto Clemente hit a scorching line drive that broke Bob Gibson's leg. Undeterred, Gibson pitched to three more Pirates hitters before snapping the bone entirely and being carried off the field.

Three months later, Gibson won three World Series games to lead St. Louis to the 1967 championship.

On July 20, 2004, Albert Pujols went 5-for-5 with three homers to help the Cardinals erase a six-run deficit and beat the Cubs. The game also featured big hits from So Taguchi and Reggie Sanders:

Four years ago today, Matt Carpenter laid claim to arguably the best game in Cardinals history as he hit three homers and two doubles in an 18-5 win over the Cubs.

Sunday will mark 73 years since Stan Musial hit for the cycle for the only time in his career. Stan's big day helped the Cardinals beat the Dodgers 14-1 and leapfrog Brooklyn for the National League lead:
