Some of the "observations" the main character shares in the show, albeit fictional, are really funny. He often refers to "the grays" (another alien race) in disdain.
If you are a fan of Alan Tudyk, go for it. Season 2 just started.

I binged all but the last episode or so of season 1 while waiting for my truck to be ready for me back in the middle of January and need to start on season 2. I'm glad somebody on here mentioned that show. I tried to but my connection was so bad on the yard in Dallas that I couldn't even get the board index here to load in under an hour. I especially loved his interactions and obsession with killing the kid (I forgot his name) where he makes it clear when nobody else is looking that he's going to kill him. I can only imagine what will happen with those two and their semi-truce. I think the two of them working together could have some dark comedy gold in there.IMADreamer wrote: ↑February 13 22, 10:03 pmMy wife and I love that show.mikechamp wrote: ↑February 8 22, 10:44 amThis could be equally applicable to the "humans are aliens" thread, but I binged season 1 of "Resident Alien" on SyFy and found it to be pretty humorous. Yellowjackets is really good, but very dark right off the bat. I'm about 7 episodes in. Most common comparisons I hear are Lost, Alive, Lord of the Flies, and I keep thinking of IT. Lost is probably the closest in terms of how each episode is structured. It's partly set in the 90s with a teenage girls' soccer team from NJ that flies to a tournament and ends up crashing in the Canadian rockies, and partly set in the present when they're in their 40s. Though unlike Lost there's no sci-fi component, and not as much of the question answered with a question. You have a vague idea of the outcome, but it's gradually being revealed who survived and how they got where they are now. There's also mysterious things going on in the present. They're being pretty smart so far about how and what they reveal, and it doesn't feel like you're being jerked around.
I got a Showtime trial through AppleTV so I could binge it in the 30 days. First episode is also free if you go that route, so you don't have to start the trial until the second one.
Haven't been this hooked on a show for a few years.

Thanks for this write-up. I got a free showtime sub. I'm gonna have to check this out.ghostrunner wrote: ↑February 24 22, 9:37 amYellowjackets is really good, but very dark right off the bat. Re: TV Thread - beware, [expletive] can get spoilery
Since I've heard this show mentioned a few times (just in general, not necessarily here), I watched the pilot episode of "Euphoria" the other night.
I found it to be very depressing and unappealing. It just seems like a show about teenage struggles/drama. I guess I'm out of the target demo, but I have no interest in seeing another episode.
For those who like it, what am I missing?

I watched a few episodes and gave up. Remember the movie "Kids?" In the 90s it was incredibly shocking because it was a gritty, nihilistic portrait of teens doing drugs, having sex, and having sex while doing drugs.mikechamp wrote: ↑February 24 22, 11:11 pmSince I've heard this show mentioned a few times (just in general, not necessarily here), I watched the pilot episode of "Euphoria" the other night.

Euphoria is just kids with tv melodrama attached to it, updated for the cool music and drugs of today. I didn't find it that shocking or compelling.

Re: TV Thread - beware, [expletive] can get spoilery
seems trivial and stupid with all thats going on but...
a new season of reno 911 is out today, on the roku channel (free, no login needed and my ad blocker is doing it's job)
https://therokuchannel.roku.com/details ... 1-defunded
i love(d) that original series, no idea if it can still hold up in these modern times (and me being damn near 20 years older). i think its revival has been strange, seems like the show was brought back to fill up content on the failed quibi experiment but somehow it dovetailed into actual full length episodes now.
during the lockdown of 2020, comedy central or paramount or whoever, was putting many of the original series episodes (19 at least) on YT so i made a playlist at the time if anyone wants to see those - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... gLMhTUvCJq
though i think its pretty easy to find old episodes of all seasons of reno 911 from a simple google, ^ those are at least high quality and not mirrored

I wish I could remember all the shows we end up watching, but some just are forgotten (we did watch Yellowjackets and enjoyed it though), but we just started a show on HBO Max (I don’t believe it’s an original) called Lovecraft Country. I know it won’t be for everyone (it’s Sci fi), but after a couple episodes it’s all kinds of crazy, in an amazing way.
Starts off pretty tame, but by the second episode it gets interesting.

i personally don't get the mulaney love he gets. i don't think he's unfunny or bad or anything, he's just a dude. clearly though i'm in the minority. i find odd too that his SNL appearances are all basically the same at this point. there's gonna be some convoluted musical and him being in an interracial couple sketch and of course a stand up opening monologue. not to say it was a "bad" episode but more along the standard "meh/ok/fine/normal". of course, the conan appearance was enough for me.
speaking of SNL, i'll be grumpy but the "please don't destroy" guys kinda rub me the wrong way. again, not saying they are "bad" but this forcing a new lonely island (which i wasn't that big on either) annoys me. of course, one of the PDD guys is the son of tim herlihy so that helps get on the show i'm sure but i dunno. i suppose there's also some "cross promotion" with youtube/online generation by having them but its just weird to me...er, just forced. very calculated and obvious. i've noticed too that i can usually get on board with the setup of their sketches and then it ends up just falling flat with me.
