Yes, that is definitely how that lil story went.Jocephus wrote: ↑January 26 22, 6:25 pmremember your lil story about how we are all brainwashed drones in grocery stores because a public health announcement gets addressed over a PA system? how is that dystopian covid fan fiction a dissenting opinion? why should anyone here take that with any level of seriousness?
the mods can set whatever standard they want. personally i'd be fine with just shutting down all the covid discussions here. if we've learned anything about GRB conversations (non-baseball wise) it doesn't solve anything (and the baseball discussions prolly don't solve anything either).

the point is, that is your *feeling*, not anything empirical. no one here can read a link into that but you were fine muddying the waters to make things sound worse. which is why im fine with mods putting a standard on what should be shared *here*. i understand if you think thats unfair but as many have said, from both sides of this discussion, no one is forcing anyone into these threads. the mods are doing the best they can, given the circumstances. this is not the place to "blow up the system"TGantz wrote: ↑January 26 22, 6:35 pmYes, that is definitely how that lil story went.Jocephus wrote: ↑January 26 22, 6:25 pmremember your lil story about how we are all brainwashed drones in grocery stores because a public health announcement gets addressed over a PA system? how is that dystopian covid fan fiction a dissenting opinion? why should anyone here take that with any level of seriousness?

Probably worth keeping in mind what empathetic means:
em·pa·thet·ic
/ˌempəˈTHedik/
adjective
showing an ability to understand and share the feelings of another.

i know thats meant to be a salve but i know what empathetic means and i do not understand nor share the feeling that going to the grocery store is dystopian and gov't overreach and i'm happy to state that publicly and i don't see how that type of commentary builds connections between two differing sides on this particular issue. i also would hope your plea applies to the anti's.
i dont think im really that active in these threads anymore but the discourse here is just the same nationally, awful.

And, that's the beauty of it all: you don't have to share his feeling but rather understand it exists.

We don't want to shut down conversation that people want to have. I mean, I'm not going to allow a freewheeling conversation about whether the Holocaust was good or bad, for example, and I'm sure there are other types of posts that don't use profanity but that do not work for the community we have long tried to build here.
Here's the short answer: The Mods aren't going to become fact checkers. Just like y'all, we all have families and jobs (well not Rad, mf'er is retired) and lives and such, and we aren't looking to create Snopes but for Baseball. What we'd like is that people can find the level of conversation they'd like to have.
@TGantz is right; COVID is such a big issue, it seeps into everything. That's why we're allowing a social thread to go forward, and you have and likely will still see mentions of it in baseball talk. But by "level of conversation" I mean people who go to social to chat about truly social issues (pop culture, movies, tv, food, drink, culture, society, human behavior, wearing tshirts as underwear, etc) but are stressed out, annoyed, or worse by political talk (about Covid or anything else really) can stay out of the Politics forum but still talk about stuff in our society, such as covid.
So we're asking that we keep a distinction in mind for the threads. And as mods, we will encourage the more political or heated covid discussions to go to politics.

You are hyper focused on the grocery store thing. It was just a small comment in the context of a hyperbolic rant demonstrating pandemic fatigue. I wasn't suggesting a conspiracy. Just demonstrating the level of exposure we have in our lives to Covid info, including mundane environments like a grocery store.Jocephus wrote: ↑January 27 22, 7:58 ami know thats meant to be a salve but i know what empathetic means and i do not understand nor share the feeling that going to the grocery store is dystopian and gov't overreach and i'm happy to state that publicly and i don't see how that type of commentary builds connections between two differing sides on this particular issue. i also would hope your plea applies to the anti's.

This thread is not for specific convos, but just wanted to clarify that specific comment you keep bringing up out of context.

There is a somewhat famous quote around not being able to define pornography, but you know it when you see it.MinorLeagueGuy wrote: ↑January 26 22, 3:48 pmand who decides what is "misinformation"? Sure seems like A LOT of recent taboo talking points have had their day in the sun. What is deemed malarkey today because of whose mouth it came out of, has been debunked and now MSM is allowed to 'report' on it. Slippery slopes for everyone.
I would expect our moderation on misinformation would have a similar feel to it.
As mods, all we can promise is that we will do our best to keep the forum well moderated and fair, and keep open communication with the posters on the forum.

But let’s take for example Robert Malone, who prior to the pandemic was considered a highly esteemed scientist in his fields of study….but since he has come out in opposition of this vaccine is now highly considered “misinformation” by the MSM narrative. If we were to post something from him, would that be considered “misinformation”?TheoSqua wrote: ↑January 27 22, 1:58 pmThere is a somewhat famous quote around not being able to define pornography, but you know it when you see it.MinorLeagueGuy wrote: ↑January 26 22, 3:48 pmand who decides what is "misinformation"?
