Angels signed OF Magneuris Sierra to a minor league contract.

Sierra at one point ranked as a top-100 prospect, but the speedy 25-year-old holds a weak .240/.287/.278 career batting line with zero home runs in 233 games (540 plate appearances) at the major league level. He will probably be stationed at Triple-A Salt Lake to begin the 2022 campaign.

Daniel Ponce de Leon signs with the Angels:
The Angels have agreed to a minor league contract with right-hander Daniel Ponce de Leon, per the team’s official transactions log. Because the former Cardinals swingman was released in September and did not return to a big league roster before season’s end, he qualified as a minor league free agent who can sign during the lockout.

David Green, member of the Cardinals from 1981 - 1984, passed away yesterday.

David Alejandro Green Casaya (December 4, 1960 - January 25, 2022) was a Nicaraguan former Major League Baseball (MLB) player who played outfielder and first baseman. Between 1981 and 1987, he spent parts of six seasons in the MLB. He was a member of the St. Louis Cardinals for five of those years, and he also spent one season with the San Francisco Giants.
Green was part of a major trade between the Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals, who later went on to face each other in the 1982 World Series. On December 12, 1980, the Brewers traded Green, Dave LaPoint, Sixto Lezcano, and Lary Sorensen to the Cardinals in exchange for Rollie Fingers, Ted Simmons and Pete Vuckovich.

He died on January 25, 2022.

We traded Rollie Fingers and Ted Simmons for Green (and others); and then later we traded him (and others) for Jack Clark.

Shildt is hired by the Padres, will keep his MLB job as well:
Padres Hire Mike Shildt For Player Development Role

The Padres announced their player development staff today, with a notable new name joining the fold in former Cardinals manager Mike Shildt. While reports last month indicated that Shildt was going to take a job in the Commissioner’s Office, Jeff Jones of The Belleville News-Democrat tweets that Shildt will actually be working in both positions, as the league gave Shildt permission to also consult with San Diego.

Sucks that a lot of manager jobs are going to the same small pool of long time guys. It also seems telling that Shildt couldn't beat out a tired retread like Showalter.
