On this date in 1995, the Cardinals' new ownership group wasted no time in improving the club, spending $33 million to bring Andy Benes and Ron Gant to St. Louis a day after their purchase of the team was announced:

12 years ago today, Matt Holliday and the Cardinals agreed to a seven-year, $120 million contract. At the time, it was the richest contract in team history:

On this date in 1988, Jack Clark signed a two-year, $3 million contract with the Yankees. The Cardinals would spend years trying to fill the gap left by Clark's absence:

20 years ago today, Ozzie Smith was waiting on the call that would inform him whether he was a first-ballot Hall of Famer. If so, he had champagne at the ready. If not, he and his family had a backup plan in place.

On this date in 1996, the Cardinals traded four prospects to the Athletics for Todd Stottlemyre. See what Todd's father Mel, a 5-time all-star with the Yankees, told his son about pitching in St. Louis:

On January 14, 1988, the Cardinals signed Bob Horner to be their new first baseman. See why Whitey Herzog initially criticized the idea of signing Horner and why general manager Dal Maxvill signed Horner anyway:

On this date in 2008, with their star third baseman embroiled in a "very personal" feud with manager Tony La Russa, the Cardinals traded Scott Rolen to the Blue Jays for Troy Glaus. See what led to the trade and how it turned out for both sides below:
