Re: Coronavirus
Maybe instead of the daily nonsense messaging we should have asked young, healthy people to take a small risk with a new vaccine for the good of everyone, especially the most vulnerable. It's not like anyone's being asked to get on a boat to Normandy. Unfortunately politics and conspiracy thinking have fractured this country beyond repair.

The airline said that as of November 1, unvaccinated staff will pay up to $200 a month more for their company health insurance, depending on the coverage. It will also limit the number of sick days unvaccinated employees are allowed to take if they contract Covid-19.

Re: Coronavirus
curious to see how they get around the health insurance part? by law employers are required to pay at least 50% of their employees health premiums.heyzeus wrote: ↑August 25 21, 11:29 amhttps://www.cnn.com/2021/08/25/business ... index.html

they can pay more than 50% though, so maybe Delta pays more than 50% currently and is dropping the percentage closer to the 50% for those unvaccinated?

Re: Coronavirus
Is that true for airlines specifically? Because I'm not aware of a law that requires employers to provide insurance benefits at all, much less how much of the premium they're required to cover.cardsfantx wrote: ↑August 25 21, 11:36 amcurious to see how they get around the health insurance part? by law employers are required to pay at least 50% of their employees health premiums.heyzeus wrote: ↑August 25 21, 11:29 amhttps://www.cnn.com/2021/08/25/business ... index.html

Curious everyone’s thoughts. Seems to be a pretty middle of the road approach. I’m sure some will favor more stringent requirements while some will think they’re too tyrannical.

it's for all businesses with over 50 employees. (full time employees)heyzeus wrote: ↑August 25 21, 12:10 pmIs that true for airlines specifically? if you have over 50 employees, you must provide health insurance AND you must provide a minimum of 50% towards your employees health premiums...if under 50 employees you don't need to provide health insurance.
edit: "LAW" was a wrong term on my part. they are required or they are forced to pay a penalty to the IRS...
No law directly requires employers to provide health care coverage to their employees. However, the Affordable Care Act imposes penalties on larger employers that fail to provide health insurance.
Under the ACA, employers with 50 or more full-time employees (or the equivalent in part-time employees) must provide health insurance to 95% of their full-time employees or pay a penalty to the IRS. This penalty is quite hefty—$3,860 per employee per year (in 2020). As a result, large employers have a strong incentive to provide health coverage. However, employees have no right to demand health care under the ACA.
To comply with the ACA, the health insurance must meet minimum requirements for coverage and affordability. Coverage must also be extended to the employee's dependents, which are defined as biological or adopted children under the age of 26. However, spouses are not considered dependents under the ACA, nor are stepchildren or foster children.

Re: Coronavirus
I think businesses have every right to try to protect the health and wellbeing of their employees and customers. And it also makes sense from the business's perspective too. If the flight crews are too sick to work (or dying) that hurts their operations.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote: ↑August 25 21, 12:17 pmCurious everyone’s thoughts. Schools, businesses and other such organizations have been mandating vaccinations for many years. The GOP is just using this hysteria as a divisive wedge, just like the other recent boogeymen -- ANTIFA, CRT, Transgender issues (bathrooms, sports...) etc.
