Re: Coronavirus
Little bit of apples to oranges. There are almost five million people in Alabama compared to about a half million in Vermont.
But still...get vaccinated people. It's the right decision.

Re: Coronavirus
Setting aside the whole vaccine or not debate, this tells me that we should still be wearing masks…both vaccinated & non-vaccinated.
And here’s something that brings into question of the credibility of the NEJM. Granted, I’m not 100% sure this is in relation to the above study….but it is related to phase 3 COVID vaccine trials and the articles written by the NEJM on them.

Re: Coronavirus
I don't see that. Seems to me the main reason to mandate masks is to make sure the non-vaccinated wear masks. I'd be on board with a mandate for that reason but without one it's pretty much pointless to do on individual basis. I don't see a health reason to do it unless there's some consensus that it's necessary. My understanding from different experts I've heard and read going back a year now is that masks are much more effective in stopping those who are symptomatic or pre-symptomatic from spreading to non-infected. Basically stopping larger droplets before they disperse, and hopefully some smaller ones. It appears vaccinated people are not likely to be symptomatic and we're in what I'd consider acceptable risk category. Once it's aerosolized, a surgical or cloth mask isn't likely to do the wearer much good. Doubling up with the right kind might, which is what I was doing pre-vaccination. Hard to say how effective it was. I never caught it, but no idea what my exposure was.cardinalkarp wrote: ↑July 22 21, 12:35 pmSetting aside the whole vaccine or not debate, this tells me that we should still be wearing masks…both vaccinated & non-vaccinated.

One thing I still don't get is why there wasn't and isn't a serious effort to get N95 production ramped up so non-medical professionals can start wearing those.

Re: Coronavirus
Last I heard reported about it was I think just pre-vaccine and they still weren’t easy to get, and definitely not on the scale necessary.
That really should’ve been done right out of the gate though. Everyone knew those were the most effective.

Re: Coronavirus
Staying home isn't an option for me, so I spent a year working in a restaurant and other people's homes wearing a mask religiously and got vaccinated immediately. Now it looks like St Louis is requiring masks again regardless of vaccination status. Thank you very much variant-factory, conspiratorial [expletive].

Re: Coronavirus
Questioning a vaccine that has only been approved for experimental use is not “conspiratorial”, and there’s plenty of information out there that supports that the potential risks are real.haltz wrote: ↑July 23 21, 2:08 pmStaying home isn't an option for me, so I spent a year working in a restaurant and other people's homes wearing a mask religiously and got vaccinated immediately. But continue blaming unvaccinated people for variants (which again can be contested) and call those who make a personal [expletive] choice “[expletive]”, because that’s making a point.
The mask wearing preventative measure shouldn’t have ever been taken out of place, because the god damn vaccine does not prevent you from getting COVID or spreading it, as you would put it, “[expletive]”.

people wear seatbelts but still die in car crashes. people wear football helmets and still get brain trauma.
statistically, sure, you can't say that vaccines are %100 perfect for every single person (what medical treatment is?). it's pretty close though.
i'll respect your choice cardinalkarp even if i think you are wrong. that said, at this point in time, i think it's fair to say those that are unvaxxed are holding back the country from distancing itself from this virus.
i mean, i guess in X amount of time if it comes out that this was some sort of evil plot you can celebrate but i do think thats unlikely.
