I don't like that this is really starting to affect "my community" (i.e., a growing number of you). Because if this place becomes decimated, who am I going to share NL Central comments with? I don't think my neighbors would appreciate random newsbites about baseball teams.

This is my way of saying, get better soon, y'all.

Only about halfway through this, and while I think this guy does an excellent job presenting complex topics in a manner most people can understand them, a lot of this is a little out of my league.

So far the title is misleading as it is not claiming Vit D cures covid. That said, it's a very deep dive into Vit D. Haven't watched it all, I'll do a tl;dw later.

But, we've talked about Vit D before. At a minimum, there is a lot of circumstantial evidence pointing to Vit D providing a modicum of protection against Covid. I don't know if anything is 100% proven, but it's one of the few if not only thing Fauci claims to take, all the guys I think are credible doctors on youtube take it and advocate for it, presumably one of the better medical teams in the world gave it to Trump when he got Covid, etc etc etc. Etc.

It's a simple thing that costs very little and can possibly do a lot of good. And, if you want to do something to help your mental state, I've anecdotally found being proactive in the preparation for Covid is very soothing. All that said, no guarantee it's not $5/month or whatever for snake oil.

That said, I do think there are things people can do to lessen the damage covid would do in the event it is caught. And, Vit D is at the top of the list.

Good point AW.

I take a vitamin D supplement and zinc everyday.

In the summer, I spend 2 to 10 hours a day outside so I don't take it then.

Definitely not much downside to doing so.

So now that I'm at a computer I can be a little more long winded.

The wife is the same. She gets sinus infections three or four times a year, and she has those same symptoms. Sore throat, headache, things like that. And still can't taste or smell.

As far as me, this is my fourth day of nothing. Friday through Sunday last week, I was slightly congested and had a very slight headache (which is kind of a thing because I never ever have headaches). A week ago Monday the three musketeers (the guys I work with), drove in a van to a small town to audit a school. As soon as I got in the school, I got really congested, and was sneezing a lot. As soon as we walked out about six hours later, I was fine. I attributed that to cleaning chemicals or something. It was just so odd that it came and went. Then until Friday of that week I was fine again. Part of my 'underlying health conditions' is that I take Vitamin D everyday, and am type O negative blood, but I guess they can help but they aren't a force field.

I am always a pessimist, so I am just waiting for the shoe to drop on getting really, really sick. I feel like I will get totally sick the minute I think I am out of the woods. But all I can say for sure is that I have tested positive, and right now I feel fine.

I probably should add that we border fifty, I'm above she is below.

My list of people I know now that have had or have it is now 14.
1 - very sick, in hospital for five weeks, still needs to use oxygen at times (older guy in 70s)
1 - very sick, not hospitalized, down and out for 5 weeks (about 60)
1 - very sick, not hospitalized, down and out for 1 week (about 50)
7 - fairly sick, flu like symptoms (anywhere from mid 50s to children)
1 - fairly sick, as described in the sentence about the wife (not quite 50)
2 - a little sick, would have worked through it on a normal year (about 50)
1 - me, still waiting for the hammer to hit me (a little over 50)

That list pretty much looks like the way this pos thing works.

There are a lot of ways this could go, obviously. The one I worry about the most is that the cities and more, let's say, aggressive states that initiated SIP see their numbers decline by early May, leading to pressure to open back up. Meanwhile, the rural areas and non-aggressive states will have a later peak due to their refusal/failure to take necessary quarantine measures. There aren't many hospitals in these areas, and people don't like dying, so they relocate to the urban hospitals and create a second flood to overwhelm our healthcare system and healthcare workers, many of whom by this point will have gotten it too.
bump.
I remembered reading something like this here or somewhere else, earlier on. Its sadly gone this way. I am not sure about hospital bed distribution process works. But the virus spread has been devious in this way, how it migrated peaked later in places like rural MO, then re-migrated back. the time factor and disjointed response and anti-leadership has [expletive] us.

I've been looking at the case numbers and hospitalization counts for Missouri this morning. I think we're far enough out from Thanksgiving that if we were going to see a huge spike from the holiday that it would be showing up by now. Instead, it looks like we're either holding about steady or dropping every so slightly. Maybe the holiday spike won't be as bad as we were fearing. Am I looking at this right?

I know this is from last week, but I still get a chuckle out of this. Long live The Bard!!!
Shakespeare gets Covid vaccine: All's well that ends well

Margaret Keenan has made history by becoming the first person in the world to get a Covid-19 vaccine outside of a clinical trial, but if there's one name you'll associate with this day, it may not be hers.

Enter, pursued by puns, William Shakespeare. Not the writer, poet and playwright, but his 81-year-old namesake. This Mr. Shakespeare was the second person to be given a jab - and, guess what, he also comes from Warwickshire.
