just got done with my 2nd covid test. it was same as the first one i got in the summer, self administered and a thin, long swab that i jam in nose and swoosh/swirl each nostril 10xs or so. this one was more uncomfortable which i guess i did to myself. like an uncomfortable tickle. anyways, i got *something* over the thanksgiving weekend, which i would normally describe as your typical common cold (cough, runny nose, congestion, etc) but none of the perhaps more specific covid symptoms. i'm mostly over it now though still have headache, mild cough, snot and slight fatigue (but that just seems normal to me, the body slowly recovering from a cold, etc). also can't think of possible exposures....other than grocery store runs and a liquor/dispensary runs...i'm not hanging out in groups. work spaces are isolated, little traffic, etc....plus we've gone to a 50/50 work/home situation for the time being.

so...yeah, guess i'll see what happens. i'm not too concerned really but will certainly be curious of results. i've never had an STD but i was thinking this morning, would i have "shame" if i tested positive for covid? i suppose not and perhaps statistically theres nothing i could have done but i admit to being relieved/pride to never having getting it, etc.

No one should be ashamed of getting covid. It's a pandemic for a reason, and big part of the reason is the ease with which it is transmitted.

Hope you're negative though!

I don't think anyone should be ashamed either, but I will admit that I'm always nervous to report someone in my organization has tested positive - as if I'll be blamed for not running a tight enough ship to prevent them from contracting it (when they are not contracting it at work, and they are remote employees anyway).

I had thoughts about not wanting to be one of the weak links in my company's chain, but so many upper management dinguses have gotten it at this point that it is no longer a concern.

I sort of agree. But I think most of us can all identify times we let our guard down seeing someone or whatnot, and didn't get tested before/afterwards.

Extreme example - bordering on willful negligence -would bother me if I went out to St Charles biker bars, got hammered - came home - became a superspreader.

actual example, sort of long but amusing story.:
I ended up taking an uber last month. I paddled down river over two days. Had loose plans to call my wife or daughter for shuttle back to my car, but I took longer getting to my endpoint and they weren't available (would have been over an hour round trip for them)

So my lack of planning, I ended up resorting to uber. . (side note- I was at a river access off unnamed road. so had to hike out 4 miles to get to a spot an uber driver would accept my ping for a ride.)

had masks on in the uber, but probably talked too much and didn't have the windows down once we got on the highway.
but still, I was sort of too loose with my agenda. could have nailed down my ride.

I don't feel bad at all about getting covid. My wife works retail. She got it from work. I got it from her because I share a bed with her. Why would anyone feel bad about going to work or sharing space with their spouse? This is how most people get it.

In health care and many service industries, it can be almost impossible to avoid. I think almost the entire staff and patient population at my mother's nursing home got it.

My mother's dying from the after-effects of the coronavirus. She was asymptomatic but was weakened by the virus, and then caught pneumonia. I was called on Saturday with permission to make brief compassionate visits, but it's clear she's shutting down. She no longer eats. She is sleeping all the time, so she's not in pain.

I feared the virus would do her in, and it looks like I was right.

I’m so sorry, Sigh. I know how you feel. And like you told me just last week, k ow that you’re doing the right thing in seeing her, she knows you love her, and focus on the memories you’ll always have. I’m really sorry.
