Would players have to quarantine without their immediate families? Obviously, their presence expands the web dramatically. But is that the plan being offered right now?

Didn't the owners already agree to a 50/50 split?
If you mean "agreed" as in sent out a BS bad faith offer in order to try to win the PR battle, then yes.

I'm not sure, but let's presume for a second it is. Or it isn't. It actually doesn't matter to what I'm about to say.

Some players' families would be able to quarantine with them. I'm thinking about a hypothetical situation of a non-working spouse and a young child (age 3 or less). Sure, they could hole up in a hotel room for 4-5 months without a drastic disruption (though it would still be a disruption, especially to the child).

Now, let's consider a player whose family consists of a non-working spouse, but two children aged 8 and 10. Assuming school resumes in the fall, those kids should be in school (unless they're being homeschooled) and not living out of a suitcase for 4-5 months. Or, let's consider a 1st or 2nd year player who "only" has a spouse or girlfriend who is still working. That person has a job to go to, so they cannot be road warriors for 4-5 months.

My overall point is that a blanket policy (quarantine with or without immediate families) is going to alter the personal lives of a not-small percentage of the players and their families. And it bears repeating: The players union has to represent all its members, which is not easy to do in this instance.

Easy for me to say, but the players union needs to establish a minimum safety standard, get it agreed to, and let any members that don't want to participate do so (Blake Snell can stay home and play Ninja Gaiden, bro--Ryu Hayabusa: now there's someone risking their life). They have their financial line in the sand. They need to get input and establish a similar line for safety. Hard job for the union. Tough situation. But they have to be worried what a lost season costs them, and the kids riding the bus in the minors, too. They're probably doing that. I hope they are. Baseball could do us all some good.

If there is no baseball season this year MLB risks falling even further behind in popularity from the NFL.

That assumes there is a 2020 NFL season, right?

Pulling off non team sports like UFC, tennis, golf, WWE(you know what I mean) there is easy work arounds to the current situation. But team sports are going to be way too tricky. Keeping a 26 man roster in MLB or 55 in NFL social distancing is a lot more tricky. I mean is NFL teams just not going to do huddles?

Fortunately for the NFL, they don't give half a goddam about the safety or wellbeing of their players. They'll just chart out the 2025 lawsuit settlement and give Roger Goodell a raise.
