Re: Former Cardinals Watch
even with his personal strife, valid as they may be, he made 4.1 mill in 2019 and he agreed to terms on 7.9 million with the pads this year. it's a rich guy baseball thing, even for widdle ol' tommy pham who never got a chance to play at the major league level.

I thought MLB players had the option to either 1) receive checks year round or 2) receive checks during the season. Obviously, their choice determines the per-check amount.
Also, I thought the NFL was "the richest sport bringing in the most revenue". When did MLB surpass the NFL?

Re: Former Cardinals Watch
So? What does it matter if he’s not sure when and what he will get paid? Big point of Pham’s and the article was major and minor leaguers being uncertain when and what they’ll be paid (especially if contracts have incentives). It’s a labor issue wrongfully attributed as selfishness on Tommy Pham’s behalf. It’s bad faith to argue otherwise. What he makes, in the little time he has to maximize his money (we don’t know Tommy’s non baseball skills so it may be the only time he has to work for a high dollar figure in his life), is not the point. It’s about labor fairness. Tommy has been well underpaid too, and you know that. What did he make during his two year stretch averaging 5 WAR a season?

unfortunately, life is not fair, are you familiar with that concept? and trying to determine fairness through professional sport labor contracts/agreements, when they get to be ratified every so often, is weak. if i'm lucky, i will be gainfully employed for the next ~30 years and i won't die on the streets (and even i can recognize i have it pretty good compared to most people). tommy gets to retire, assuming no injuries, at ~35, likely has access to some smart financial folks who can further enrich him and he gets to work out everyday as part of his job. additionally, if tommy loses the, at least, 10 million he's made so far, he's an idiot. tommy's personal situation is pretty low on my sympathy radar, plus...he'll get his money.

It’s a collective labor issue. The amount of money people make isn’t the point. That was my point in the post that you wanted to argue me on... Pham may not be on your sympathy radar but lots of poor minor leaguers and league minimum major leaguers should be. At least for me they are. We’re all in this mess.

my point is, all things considered, he's got it pretty good. i know humble isn't part of his game, nor yours but lets try and keep things in perspective on "fairness"
and to add to your ninja edit, sure minor leaguers, that's different. tommys no longer a minor leaguer.

No, they just get paid during the regular season (not paid in spring training nor postseason pay)mikechamp wrote: ↑March 18 20, 4:16 pmI thought MLB players had the option to either 1) receive checks year round or 2) receive checks during the season. Now obv their per diem for food and such (which is a lot; think $100-200 per day) and things of that variety won’t be paid while games aren’t being played, but that’s to be expected.
The NBA/NHL are being paid right now because their season technically is still “in season”. Baseballs is not and won’t be for another couple weeks. And I haven’t seen anything to suggest they won’t be paid as normal, so I’m not even sure what pham’s argument is.

He hasn't heard anything, which is kind of his point. He doesn't know the pay and service time ramifications.cardsfantx wrote: ↑March 18 20, 6:03 pmAnd I haven’t seen anything to suggest they won’t be paid as normal, so I’m not even sure what pham’s argument is.

Why wouldn’t he just assume he’s going to get paid as normal? No ones said any different?InvincibleCakeEater wrote: ↑March 18 20, 6:06 pmHe hasn't heard anything, which is kind of his point. If the season start time (when it a was supposed to start) comes and goes and there’s no check, I could see speaking up then.
Now? What’s the point? He’s not supposed to get paid now anyways.
