I was thinking the same thing. What’s the harm in signing him to a minor league deal?obucard wrote:2018: Holland signs with St. Louis, sucks, gets released, signs with Washington, is great.

The harm: Rosenthal takes a spot of someone likely more deserving than him at this point.danh35 wrote:I was thinking the same thing. What’s the harm in signing him to a minor league deal?obucard wrote:2018: Holland signs with St. Louis, sucks, gets released, signs with Washington, is great.

The Redbirds are 31-44. What deserving player would be displaced?Big Amoco Sign wrote:The harm: Rosenthal takes a spot of someone likely more deserving than him at this point.danh35 wrote:I was thinking the same thing. Just imagine him taking innings from 34 year old Tommy Layne and his 7.44 ERA over 30 games as a reliever. So much [expletive] harm.Big Amoco Sign wrote:The harm: Rosenthal takes a spot of someone likely more deserving than him at this point.danh35 wrote:I was thinking the same thing. Well Webb sucks so we may end up needing Layne as a LOOGY.InvincibleCakeEater wrote:Just imagine him taking innings from 34 year old Tommy Layne and his 7.44 ERA over 30 games as a reliever. I don't think we need a Left Handed 0 Out Guy no matter how bad Layne sucks.Big Amoco Sign wrote:Well Webb sucks so we may end up needing Layne as a LOOGY.InvincibleCakeEater wrote:Just imagine him taking innings from 34 year old Tommy Layne and his 7.44 ERA over 30 games as a reliever. Nah, I don't think it's about Tommy Layne...who is coming up the pipeline in Springfield that Rosenthal could block once Layne is cut?
Second: Have you seen his games with Washington? Hilariously bad. He's probably toast.

First: I don't think you've even seen the Springfield/Memphis rosters because your argument is beyond terrible. It would really be a travesty if he took innings from 29 year old Chris Beck and his 6.91 ERA over 25 games.Big Amoco Sign wrote:Nah, I don't think it's about Tommy Layne...who is coming up the pipeline in Springfield that Rosenthal could block once Layne is cut?

Second: Yeah. He was really bad. He very well may be toast. But if he costs nothing and regains his form he's something.

Re: Former Cardinals Watch
Wouldn't be the first time they tried to give a former reliever a chance to show what he could do in the minors...Mujica was given a contract a couple seasons ago if memory serves. No reason not to take a flyer on him; if he pans out then great. If not; cut him loose later. He won't block anyone if he is not performing.
