Well, there's a pretty decent chance we don't win in 2011 without making that trade. It's impossible to prove one way or another, but it's very tough to say the Cards still would have won with Rasmus when the guys involved in that trade positively contributed to the team winning.
You're right, they may have won more games. Never know. Fun times with Alternate History. Some Philip K. Dick [expletive].
And thinking Pham would have put up those same numbers in StL had he not been traded isn't?
I love Pham.
Hate he was traded.
Love the way the Cards are playing now.
Hope the best for Pham in Tampa.
Why wouldn't the guy currently mashing not be currently mashing? There's no alternate history here. It's current present day. Confused on what you mean? You think the current schedule we have is harder than TB's? Ha.
We traded a guy in retaliation for an SI piece. Weak.
And comparing to Rasmus is Apples and Pomegranate.

Facing different pitchers and different teams has no bearing on how a hitter performs then?
Move on.
Pham sure has...
Rasmus to Pham is more like Gala apple to Fuji apple...

Ah yes, his problem was that he wasn't facing elite AL East pitching. He would have whiffed a bunch against the Tigers and Pirates.
Thinking he wasn't going to turn it around was more the issue I was driving at.
6 WAR season. Now likely a ~3 WAR season (in limited play yet again). I'm sure somewhere in between next year and year after.
Whole lineup has 7/30 BB/K guys that don't make contact. Would have been nice to have a Pham.
"Limited playing time" is a little misleading. He's missed some time (like most players), but he has 515 at-bats.
Bader is having a far better season than Pham. The Cards were smart to let Bader have the job (to be honest, I wasn't a believer in Bader). I like Pham, but he's not a plus-defender anymore, and he's not going to continue with the .400 BABIP that he's posted since going to TB.
Swirls wrote:Christ, this [expletive] about the Pham trade is going to be rehashed a million times just like the "Cardinals are cheap and won't sign elite FA for high $$$" argument, isn't it?
Jesus Christ, let it go people. We didn't [expletive] this much about the Mulder trade, and that had way worse repercussions.
it's really just 1 poster rehashing the pham trade...people responding to it, is what's keeping it alive.
There was so much history with Pham. The Cardinals could’ve cut him over that decade he couldn’t stay healthy. He’d probably argue that would’ve been great so he could sign elsewhere and get a chance quicker. Hard to say either way. We got a great year from him the made room for the young guys. They may not be as talented, but they’re cheaper and have less health issues. I still believe it was a move which benefitted all parties.
